The prism section is (as far as I can tell visually) identical though, with both the objective tubes and eyepiece assembly extended.

Commonly seem sets the "smooth ocular 7x50 ( Zeiss), Gasmask (Rubber eyed cupped) 7x50 (Zeiss), the 8x60 "Slim Commander", used by all ranks, both as handheld and as a director mounted set, the " deck mounted 8x60- a very heavy set not practical for being hand held. In WWII, the infantry went to a shorter K98 rifle, which launched the 154-gr flat based bullet at 2,805 fps, and the 197. While designed for black powder, the Kropatschek action proved to be strong enough to handle smokeless powder. We recommend using a tangential impact screwdriver with a suitable impact screwdriver socket or an internal TX drive. Porro II, for which I have the plans and calculations and drawings of some of the production tooling.Heads up to anyone going to have a look at these binoculars, they aren't actually available in Lidl until Monday 17th June.

It strikes me that it would be a matter of considerable inconvenience to source ammuntion for and use a foreign rifle of foreign military chambering, and then to use the brass from that to hand-load ammunition for a second rifle of domestic civillian chambering when presumably all around were heaps of 8x57IS. Kropatschek's rifles used a tubular magazine (constructed of nickel-plated steel) of his design, of the same type used in the Japanese Murata Type 22 and the German Mauser Gewehr 1871/84. are very usable as binoculars, once you adjust to the eye piece focusing which is used on most military binoculars. There's been discussions in the refractors forum that some refractors benefit from using a prism diagonal instead of a mirror.

But beating the drum on this has so far not produced any modern production, and has only increased the pressure on the limited supply of the originals.

Particularly after Germany invaded Russia in 1941 the Wehrmacht needed binoculars that could withstand cold temperatures. diam then effectively the OG is stopped-down below its full 60mm aperture and the binos are ineffective and IMHO useless for any purpose for old guys and in full daylight when the eye stops down anyway useless for anyone. Several people, myself included, have for years been suggesting a copy of this "tall one", or the"fat one", but without the aspheric eyepieces.
