The GF-2 spacecraft is operational as of October 2015. The Figures 3, 4 and 5 are sample images of the LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase) of the mission (Ref. 1). The main GF2 innovation is the inclusion of a touch sensitive rear LCD screen which can be used to control mode, focus and operation of the camera. The Panasonic DMC-GF2 uses the touch screen to provide mode selection, as such that there isn't a mode dial on the camera. While current GF1 owners will most likely bemoan the simplification of the control system in favour of a touchscreen system, compact camera owners looking to upgrade to the new breed of DSLR-like models will no doubt be attracted by the smaller design, cutting-edge interface and pared-down design. The GF2 is definitely not a natural successor to the GF1 that it replaces, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a great camera in its own right that's well-suited to its new target audience. As there are no film modes on the GF2, it does pay to shoot raw images, even if it is just to fine tune the contrast, or change the colour saturation. Colours straight from the camera can often be quite subdued - unlike some earlier Panasonic cameras. In modern computers, data are represented with bit strings of a fixed length, called machine words. These are endowed with the structure of a vector space over GF(2). The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 maximum shutter speed is 60 seconds and there's also a Bulb option for exposures up to 4 minutes long, which is excellent news if you're seriously interested in night photography. The shot below was taken using a shutter speed of 30 seconds at f/8 at ISO 100. I've included a 100% crop of the image to show what the quality is like. The camera takes the same amount of time again to apply noise reduction, so for example at the 15 second setting the actual exposure takes 30 seconds. Gaofen-2 builds upon the overall goal of the CHEOS program, which is to construct an advanced Earth observation system with high spatial, spectral and radiometric resolution, using the Panchromatic and Multispectral Camera Suite-2 (PMC-2). However, my purpose of getting this camera is because of its small size so that I can bring it out more often than the big DSLR, not to mention all the attention the big DSLR draws. I want to practice photography, not mode dialing! By the way, the mode dial is replaced by a big icon, be it 'M''S''A', etc. on the upper left corner of the screen. One touch of that icon lets you choose any mode you want. So all you miss is a tweak of the dial from a touch of the screen. The GF2, as all products by Grillo, was projected and built to last and keep its value for many years. In addition, GF-2 features some onboard intelligent health monitoring and self-management capabilities, including autonomous battery charging control, a battery discharge depth safety guard, payload subsystems start/stop control etc., which provide a better control for the batteries, momentum wheel, control moment gyros, solar array drive mechanism and data transmission antennas- in particular a better balance between the work strength and stress environment, avoiding early failure problem occurrences, and ensuring the longevity goals to meet the design requirements.
