Description

We want the Handbook to be accessible for barristers, users of barristers’ services, and the general public. Our aim is that the Handbook should allow consumers to understand what to expect from barristers as well as providing clarity about the regulatory regime with which barristers must comply. But we recognise that, as it has developed over the years, the Handbook has become less easy to use and we have therefore announced a review of the Handbook to ensure that it remains fit for purpose, relevant, and accessible. SNCT/09/09 - Hours of Work and Annual Leave for Educational Psychologists, Senior Educational Psychologists, Depute Principal Educational Psychologists and Principal Educational Psychologists and Education Support Officers, Quality Improvement Officers and Quality Improvement Managers Please note that there will be changes in 2023-24 to how the essay option is organised. Details will be published in the Part III Handbook 2023-24 at the start of the new academic year.

rS39 sets out who employed barristers in non-authorised bodies are permitted to supply legal services to. They are normally only permitted to supply services to their employer i.e. the body itself, and not clients of their employer. The new Internal Governance Rules, set by the Legal Services Board (LSB), aim to further enhance the BSB’s regulatory independence and Version 4.5 of the Handbook therefore reflects the requirements of the new rules. The separate 'Guidance on Self-Employed Practice' has been removed and replaced by 'Guidance on Investigating and Collecting Evidence and Taking Witness Statements'. See Code Guidance. The substantive provisions on attendance at police stations are now at gC39; Other trusts must either have a dedicated audit and risk committee or can combine it with another committee, such as finance.

Pathway 1 is completed over 10 months: September 2023 – July 2024. Orals are only held once a year. The audit and risk committee should meet at least three times a year. Remit of the committee in relation to internal scrutiny This policy statement (PS) publishes final rules and supervisory statements following on from CP17/15 - The PRA Rulebook: Part 3. It is relevant to all PRA-regulated firms. It is the third in a series of publications over two years that will redraft the Handbook inherited from the Financial Services Authority to create the PRA Rulebook. Two new roles have been created to take regulatory decisions – the Commissioner and the Independent Decision-Making Body – following the disestablishment of the Professional Conduct Committee. The powers and functions of each role are set out in the Regulations, including the decisions available to each role at the end of the investigation of an allegation. The Commissioner’s powers include the power to authorise other persons to exercise any powers, and these authorisations are recorded in the Scheme of Delegations, contained in the Bar Standards Board Governance Manual. Version 4.2 (September 2019) - Changes This contains three pieces of work: the Critical Analysis Report (CAR), the Professional Development Appraisal (PDA) and the Records of Work Experience (RWE). The exams and the portfolio, which align with the five topic areas identified by ARB/RIBA in their professional criteria, are marked by two professional examiners and then assessed in an oral examination in July 2024.

The Part III Guide to Courses provides information on individual lecture courses offered in a given year. It is updated over the summer to provide information to students starting the course in October; this means that it is subject to change. The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)– [ https://www.designingbuildings.co.uk/wiki/Community_infrastructure_levy_CIL] is closely linked to the Section 106 Agreements which is why discussing these as early as possible with the Local Authority can help to shape a project and design. Cities such as London also have a Mayoral CIL on top of the Local Authority’s to possibly bear in mind.

As Core Duty 5 applies to barristers at all times, the amendments to gC25 - gC27 are relevant to conduct occurring in both a barrister’s professional and non-professional life. The amended gC27 explicitly refers to the newly published Code Guidance, Guidance on the Regulation of Non-Professional Conduct, which seeks to clarify when (and why) the BSB might have a regulatory interest in conduct that occurs outside the scope of a barrister’s professional practice. Version 4.6(31 December2020) - changes

trustees and peer reviewers performing the work should have qualifications in finance, accounting or audit, and appropriate internal audit experience. Trusts should work towards this position where it is not already the case. Version 4.1 of the Handbook includes the new price, service and redress transparency rules for self-employed barristers, chambers, and BSB entities. The new rules are designed to improve the information available to the public before they engage the services of a barrister, and follow recommendations from the Competition and Markets Authority that legal regulators should introduce new requirements in this area. People being examined can be in any size practice, from a large commercial practice, a small one-man band to anything in between. Sometimes people sitting the exam have been architectural assistants for tens of years, other times, people have been working as a part II architectural assistant for the minimum of a year. Barristers providing services through a non-authorised body (e.g. an agency or corporate vehicle) whose purpose is to facilitate the supply of in-house legal services to another non-authorised body (e.g. a local authority or corporate body); and
