We’re going to look at setting up two of the most popular smart products out there: Hive smart lights and Hive smart heating. One thing people often worry about with their smart light bulbs is whether they’ll fit with their existing wiring and wall switches. The short answer is yes. Hive’s lights come with standard fittings so it’s literally a case of unscrewing the old and screwing in the new. We advise not to install bulbs on metal lampshades or glass lamp stands.

One of the significant differences between Hive v Nest is that Hive doesn’t learn your heating routine as Nest does. Settings are changed manually.

The thermostat has a detector so it knows when somebody is in the house, and which room they are in. It will set the heating accordingly, which enables you to save money by lowering the temperature of rooms you are not using. Enter Hub ID and wait (potentially up to 15 minutes) until firmware update is complete. The hub should not be unplugged until the update is complete, otherwise it may be corrupted I am not to proud to admit defeat and get a 'Professional' in but I guess I was hoping it was pretty straightforward. There’s more than one model available for both Hive and Nest thermostats, and they all carry different hallmarks – and prices. Depending on your exact needs, it might not be necessary for you to get the highest-spec thermostat, which can help to save you some money.

The key selling point of the 3rd-generation Nest is that the algorithm learns your daily routines over a couple of weeks and sets the heating accordingly. It knows what time you leave the house and what time you get home, whether you work shifts or have a lie-in on weekends. There is also the functionality to set holiday periods to keep an undercurrent of heat working in your home whilst you’re away – this is especially important in the colder winter months where you want something heating up daily so that you don’t encounter frozen – or burst – pipes. Remove the old heating programmer and thermostat, and replace it with the new one – this involves live cables and wires so make sure the power is turned off before attempting this step While this may be an obvious point, it’s worth mentioning: having better control over your heating system will help you to save money on your energy bills as you simply have greater awareness of the amount you’re using and how much it is costing you day-to-day. The advantage of this is you have more control and flexibility over your heating. If you do forget to switch the boiler off when you’re not coming home, Hive sends alerts to your phone when the temperature changes.

What’s the Difference Between a Hive or Nest Thermostat?

Control it with your voice or from your phone using the Hive app. So wherever you are, you can set schedules. One of the best ways to combat rising prices is to shop savvily. This might mean that you surrender the speed of your project by waiting for sale or offer periods, but it can be incredibly influential when you’re looking to save money. Are you comfortable with installation yourself? Decide this and either book a labourer or get to work yourself, following the correct electrical precautions To simplify your home’s heating, and make a step towards being more environmentally conscious, keep reading to find out which smart thermostat is best for your home. How Much Does It Cost to Install a Hive or Nest Thermostat? If you’re looking to lower the cost of your energy bills, considering upgrading your central heating system with a smart thermostat is a great way to go. Both Nest and Hive give you more control over the amount of energy you consume and will help you to manage the cost of your heating bills.
