Description

Terry’s Chocolate Orange: I used the classic Terry’s chocolate orange for this hot chocolate recipe. You can use alternative orange flavoured chocolate brands. Whisk and bring this orange chocolate milk to a simmer. Add the orange juice and cook for 2 minutes. Chocolate - For the best results, use high quality dark chocolate, semi sweet chocolate, or even chocolate chips. Just make sure whatever chocolate you use is of good quality! Don't add the orange juice in the beginning. If you do, the milk will curdle. Instead, wait until the end to add it.

Orange juice - Preferably freshly squeezed; The recipe calls for two tablespoons, but you can adjust it based on your personal preference. Method Milk: Use full-fat milk for a creamy hot chocolate. You can use other milk types like semi-skinned milk or even plant-based milk alternatives. Fun to Share: I have a small mug, a little bigger than an espresso mug, that my daughter drinks cocoa out of. It’s such a special treat and she just glows and smiles ear-to-ear when she gets to enjoy a cup of cocoa with her mom and dad.

Method

First: Melt the chocolate. Begin by adding the chopped dark chocolate and the milk to a saucepan, whisking frequently over medium heat until the chocolate has melted, being careful that it doesn't burn. Taste, do you find it too bitter? Add in a little more sugar. Too sweet? - more unsweetened cocoa powder. If you find it too flavorful and rich - more milk. It's impossible to ruin this delicious cup of orange hot chocolate! Strain it into four (or two large!) cups to avoid drinking the zest. Simmer the orange peels with the milk and then let them infuse. The longer you rest the milk, the stronger the citrusy flavour will get. Remove the rind.

For toppings, you can’t go wrong with lightly whipped cream, piled on top of the hot chocolate in big pillowy spoonfuls. I also added some chocolate shavings, although hot fudge sauce would be equally delicious. And finally, I had some candied orange slices left over from another project, so each mug got one of those as well. Totally optional, but I think we can all agree they’re pretty freaking cute that way. Indulgent Treat: January – it doesn’t have to be all about salads. There is nothing better, NOTHING better than warming up with some hot chocolate after being out in the snow. Hot chocolate is a perfect beverage following snowman building and snow angel making.Use can use vegan chocolate and add a quarter teaspoon of orange extract. Another alternative is to mix cocoa powder with orange extract to recreate the chocolate orange flavour. But the best option would be to buy vegan chocolate orange like this one. You can also keep it simple by dusting lots of cocoa powder and a dash of orange zest (that's how I did it). If you have, place some candied orange slices too. Milk - Any kind! I almost always use almond milk or oat milk for all of my recipes, but any milk will do. Are there any other classic and fab combinations I'm missing out? Let me know in the comments. Sometimes great combinations can be surprising too, like strawberry + basil and pomegranate + any meat (try it in this recipe!). I'm sure you'll find your next favorite combination in this list. Enjoy! Cocoa powder - Unsweetened cocoa powder works best as you already get sweetness from the chocolate and sugar.
