Vermeer’s main patron was probably a woman, according to curators of the retrospective which is opening at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam this week. We know of 37 paintings and, although not all experts are in agreement, 28 of them are on display in this magnificent Vermeer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. That notices or signs of a proper size shall be placed and maintained in such room or rooms so as to indicate clearly that the collections there in contained were bequeathed to the Museum by me, and a proper rail shall be provided, some distance from the wall, for protection. Current acceptance is largely based in scientific evidence which, however, has proven that the painting originated in the 17th century.
