The Nextbase 112 features a G-force sensor that's meant to save a video clip when the camera detects a crash. If you don't have your smartphone with you, still-photo support on the Nextbase 112 lets you snap a picture at the press of a button. Surprisingly, considering the price of the 112, Nextbase has equipped it with a magnetic mounting system. This isn’t quite as seamless as the magnetic system we see on premium sat-navs such as the TomTom GO 520. But it still works quite well. The 112 slides into place and is held there by magnets. So you’re looking to hop onto the dash cam wagon, but you’re short on cash. Very short. So short, in fact, that only the cheapest of the cheap will do. Where do you look? Regarding the recording lengths, the camera will record continuously in small segments (1,2, or 3 minutes). It will record these segments consecutively until the SD card is full. Then the oldest piece of footage will be deleted and the newest will be saved in it's place. This will continue looping and is called Continuous Overwriting. The Dash Cam does this automatically to allow for more footage to be recorded and the old, unnecessary footage to be deleted without manual intervention. However Protected footage is not overwritten in the same way. These can fill the card and reduce the quantity of normal footage saved on your SD card.

You can tinker a little with the auto-exposure settings, switch audio recording on or off and even input your licence plate number that is watermarked onto the camera’s footage. All of these are quite neat, if simplistic – far more than you might expect from a device of this price.
