Cacique: Founded in 1959, Cacique is another iconic brand in Venezuela. Its rum is appreciated for its smoothness and characteristic flavor. Over the years, Cacique has managed to maintain its position in the market, both nationally and internationally.

These are just some of the most important brands in the rum industry in Venezuela. Each of them has its own approach, history, and unique flavor profile, contributing to the diversity and richness of Venezuelan rum on the global stage. Conclusion Why is Venezuela such a prominent figure in the world of rum? It began, in part, with sugar cane. They’ve been a producer of top-notch sugar cane for quite some time, with much of it being sold and imported. After a while, though, someone realized that this special home-grown sugar cane could probably make some pretty great rum – and they won’t have to go far at all for their main ingredient.

Venezuelan rum has made quite the name for itself over the years, gaining notoriety for its truly incredible contributions to the industry. Brands like Diplomatico and Santa Teresa are responsible for much of Venezuela’s best expressions. However, while these two companies are rather large and impressive, they aren’t the only distilleries doing amazing things. The iconic Central American rum is bringing some much-needed action in the otherwise staid world of premium rums in India. Diplomatico Single Vintage is another rich and complex expression from the highly established Diplomatico brand. For this one, they reached far into their reserves for the perfect combination of perfectly aged rum. This one is aged for 12 years in malt whiskey and bourbon barrels before finishing in Oloroso sherry casks. On the nose it smells sweet and pretty much unaged. Theres not any signs of oak or anything that you might expect from an aged rum. It’s very similar to the supermarket Trini rums I mentioned earlier. It is difficult to say which distillery this is from but bearing in mind the metrics needed to supply Lidl I fancy this is from West Indies Rum Distilery (WIRD). Venezuelan law mandates strict quality control measures for rum production, ensuring that every bottle meets the highest standards. The designation of “Ron de Venezuela” is reserved for rums that have been produced and aged in Venezuela according to these stringent regulations, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of the product.

Beyond political and business influences, natural and cultural factors have contributed to the renown of Venezuelan rum. Venezuela’s climatic conditions and temperature variations between day and night create optimal conditions for aging in oak barrels. This process allows for the exchange between alcohol and wood, imparting rum with its distinctive color, aroma, and flavor.

I think a little bit of ice is exactly what this rum needed. That hint of bitterness I saw when taken neat was a solid indicator that this rum wasn’t designed to be sipped — it was designed to be mixed. The practice can be confusing when the age of the solera appears on a bottle because the stated age of a solera has nothing to do with the age of the liquid drawn from it or the average age of the blend. Some critics condemn the practice and believe it detracts from the rum adding an artificial quality. Others see nothing wrong with it. I’m in the latter camp, although I wish, for the sake of transparency, that producers disclosed the practice and the dosage. The bottle is equally as unhelpful information wise and I have briefly tried some internet searches but have not uncovered anything useful. So I am going into this review wit h very little to go on. As a result this review will likely be quite short and I will have to speculate about what I am actually drinking………….

The practice can be controversial, however, because there are no firm rules on how a solera is operated. Critics of the practice have argued that Latin American rum producers, the area where the practice is most prevalent, do not follow a true, sherry style solera system but are really just producing a blend consisting of rums with different ages. The expression earned a Gold Medal at the London Spirits Competition with a fantastic score of 93 points. It’s made with a blend of light and heavy bases, creating a complex and balanced profile. It’s made from their special, top-notch homegrown sugarcane and matured in the diverse climate of Venezuela. It’s mixed with pure water and the company pays great attention to the quality of each and every drop of rum that goes into the casks for aging. To make, simply mix and stir all ingredients together with plenty of ice. Garnish with your spearmint leaves and enjoy! Pomegranate Mojito Venezuelan rum is protected by the country’s policy of denomination of origin (D.O.C) called ‘Ron De Venezuela’, and the rum makers there guard it quite fiercely. Like in the case of Scotch whisky, the Venezuelan rum cannot be produced anywhere else in the world. All rums are required to be aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two years, and should contain at least 40 per cent alcohol. Artificial colour, flavour, aroma, or mixing of the rum with molasses or alcohol from other countries are all forbidden. All sugarcane used has to be produced locally as well.

Our

Santa Teresa Gran Reserva is a unique blend of rums aged for up to five years. Sometimes overshadowed by the Distillery’s flagship expression, but this one stands well on its own with the same quality and complexity, while offering a different profile and its own flavors. This expression is the perfect result of an ideal climate – surrounded by cool nights, sunny days, a nice, steady breeze, and plenty of rainfall. Especially with 12 years to mature, this climate creates an amazing and well-balanced profile. The expression ages in used scotch and bourbon casks, making it even more special. Furthermore, the Denomination of Controlled Origin (D.O.C.) established in 2003 by the Autonomous Service of Intellectual Property (SAPI) has reinforced the quality and authenticity of Venezuelan rum. This certification attributes characteristics and exclusivity to rums produced in Venezuela, emphasizing the significance of geographic location in the creation of this spirited beverage. International Recognition and Celebration of Venezuelan Rum Ron Bengalo Rum from Barbados. In todays climate most people out there will be hunting for the odd rum bargain. Especially, when it comes to something to use as a casual weekend mixer.

Presentation wise the Ron Bengalo range all com in this plastic wrapped 3/4 stubby style bottles. The colours used relate to the flag or familiar national colours for each island/country. So we have a very striking blue and yellow colour scheme here. In Venezuela, there are several rum brands that are recognized both nationally and internationally for their distinctive quality and flavor. Some of the most important and prominent brands in the Venezuelan rum industry are as follows:The Venezuelan rum designation forbids the alteration of the mixture of rum by use of substances that provide artificial color, flavor or aroma. [2] These requirements also include the rum having, in the entirety of its components, a minimum of two years spent aging in white oak barrels and at least 40% anhydrous alcohol, and that none of the raw materials are mixed with molasses nor alcohol from other countries [3] Those sugary substances are added to water and fermented using a proprietary strain of yeast that is only used at this one distillery. The newly created alcoholic liquid is then distilled through a combination of column and pot stills to produce the raw white rum. The sherry intended for bottling is drawn from the lowest tier. In theory, this is about a quarter to a third of the barrel contents at any one time. Each producer, however, is free to manage the solera as they choose.
