That’s right, the screenplay for that was written before Scream, which Williamson cranked out over the course of a weekend. Scream was shot digitally using the Arri Alexa Mini camera and Panavision G and T lenses, capturing the images at 3. This film is such a slavish copy of the original that it leaves little room to be anything but that. The anamorphic shooting process renders the edges of the image slightly blurry and some changes to the geometry of shapes at the image’s periphery (due to the stretching and shrinking of the image done when projected) and this is what we see here throughout, so expectations need to be aligned.

The half-hour worth of extras are for fans of the film and the commentary track is definitely worth listening to. Finally, the image on this new 4K release has the frame opened up a little, showing slightly more image at the sides of the film. The plot even takes a moment to humorously comment on the social effects of movie violence and the fact that some are willing to profit from real-life murder and mayhem in spite of the pain it might cost victims. Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore starred in the film. For more about Scream 4K and the Scream 4K Blu-ray release, see Scream 4K Blu-ray Review published by Martin Liebman on April 5, 2022 where this Blu-ray release scored 4.

The third one lampooned film-making in general and the fourth one took aim at the notions of new technology and how it changes people’s attitude towards ‘fame’… all being about something bigger than just a bog-standard slasher film. There’s no searing bright HDR highlights, no mega-saturated colours to tantalise the eyeballs with, almost nothing to get that excited about whatsoever from a purely visual standpoint. Not a criticism of the disc or its transfer at all, more a sense of shift in the overall colour sensibility of the film itself, possibly yet another visual nod back to its 90's origins. The better and more noteworthy upgrade comes from the subtle and nuanced application of HDR, supplying the action with a brighter, more vivid appeal compared to its HD SDR counterpart.

A string of murders brings Gail to Woodsboro (in an effort to increase sales of her book, about Sidney’s mother). Overall, devoted fans will be plenty happy with this UHD edition, and given the improvements, it is a recommended upgrade. With its name-dropping horror movie references, brutal death scenes, and whodunit scenario, this new Scream movie feels fresh despite its many mistakes and cheese. In fact in each film, it's pretty easy to take down the masked serial killer with a simple punch or push.HDR and WCG helps with all of this of course, adding just the right sense of enhancement to those shadows and highlights to bring a sense of life to the image. Other benefits of a purely digitally captured image are present – notably a rock-solid image with no judder caused by the film’s in-camera motion and a lack of any sense of unwarranted colour fluctuation.
