I adored Arthur Pepper and imagined coming across him in my travels. Now I feel the same way about Benedict Stone! When Gemma, the teenaged daughter of his estranged brother, arrives unannounced from America and shows up on the doorstep of Benedict's home in a quiet English village, she shakes up his mundane life. He and his wife are separated, his jewelry shop business has declined, and Gemma provides the spark to get things moving again. Soon, Benedict starts to realize that he has everything he could possibly need in life and he needs to start embracing it all. Rise and Shine, Benedict Stone cast I thoroughly enjoyed Benedict and felt sorry for him as he worked through living without his wife. His jewelry shop and their love just hadn't been enough for them after they were unable to have children after eight years. There are so many good themes in this movie that I wish they were all explored a bit more. While Benedict and Emelia deciding that they are happy without children was a bit rushed, at least that storyline saw a fulfilling end. However, Gemma and Charlie’s respective storylines were a bit unfinished. I would have liked to see Charlie learn to be a bit more understanding of the difficult situation Benedict was in raising his little brother at 18.

In the present, Benedict obtains Charlie’s phone number from Gemma’s phone and calls Charlie. Within hours, Charlie is in England. He had not known Gemma’s whereabouts. He and Benedict get into a fistfight, letting loose years of anger. After overseeing the fight, Gemma wanders off alone into the moors above the town. When she does not come home, Benedict and Charlie, along with Estelle, put their differences behind them and set out to find her. Then Gemma comes into his life. The daughter of his brother, the only living family members he has left. And, things begin to change. I read The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by this author. It’s still my favorite. I plan to read her other books before her latest comes out. Benedict Stone (Tom Everett Scott) is breaking up with his wife (Mía Maestro). One rainy night, his niece Gemma Stone (Ella Ballentine) suddenly shows up. He's been estranged from his brother for 20 years and has never met his niece. She claims to have lost her phone and can't remember her dad's phone number.

Benedict was sweet but naive and had a heart of gold. He and Gemma grew together, and Gemma helped Benedict in his jewelry shop - a shop Gemma said needed some new ideas and changes just like Benedict did. The general outcome is predictable as is Gemma's role in it. Even so Ella Ballentine's energy as Gemma, and how she infects Benedict with it, is a joy to watch. Maestro is immediately sympathetic as Emilia. She has a elegant beauty and a appealing personality. Ten years after her teenage daughter went missing, a mother begins a new relationship only to discover she can't truly move on until she answers lingering questions about the past. For Benedict Stone, life has been moving in one direction without much change. He’s approaching his ten-year wedding anniversary with wife Emilia, but the couple isn’t living together at the moment after the strain of trying to conceive a child drives a wedge between them. Much to his surprise, it wasn't Estelle, but Gemma who announced that she was his niece from America and she had lost her purse, her passport, and her phone. She wanted to stay with Uncle Ben. What else could he say but yes?

Rise and Shine, Benedict Stone is a story of broken dreams, fractured family, and the power of belief. One lonely night, Benedict Stone is woken by banging on his door. On the other side is a young woman named Gemma, who claims to be his niece from America. Gemma is traveling alone and says her purse with phone and passport were stolen at the airport. Grudgingly, Benedict lets Gemma stay with him while he attempts to reach his estranged brother, Charlie. Years later, he is slovenly, overweight, pining for the wife who moved out because she feels pressured by their infertility, yearning for the brother who left never wanting to see him again, discontent with his work, and ripe for it all somehow to be made right. Mixed feelings about this one. If the reader can suspend belief and just go with it, that's the best way to enjoy it. This poor, sad character, Benedict Stone. All he really cares about is his wife, Estelle, and having a family which even more sadly, is not going to happen. So Benedict eats and eats and eats. His life is mundane and sad, very sad. Then Estelle leaves him. Then he becomes really sad. Benedict is so sad that I almost did not want to continue reading this book. He is such a loser, but there is something about him that makes you want to read on. Rise and Shine, Benedict Stone' will premiere on September 26, Sunday, at 9/8 c, on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Benedict, by contrast, is a study in grays when we first meet him, from his wardrobe to the walls of the shop to the metals he works with. RISE & SHINE, BENEDICT STONE was a heartwarming read about family, about trying new things, and about trying to get what you need in life. The gem stones are a major part of the story, literally and symbolically, as they help catalogue Benedict and Gemma's journeys. Each chapter is introduced by a different gem from Benedict's dad's journal with its properties and the significance attached to the gems. I spent a great deal of time curious about what was really going on with Gemma and what dreadful thing Benedict did to cause his brother to leave and cut him off. I suspected on both counts and I was mostly right. The author was not afraid to present a flawed hero, but I loved her Benedict and I was rooting hard for him to succeed on all counts.

I loved The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper and her latest book is another winner. The author has the ability to write about relationships in a heartwarming way that just pulls you into the story and the lives of these characters. An amazingly intricate and ambitious first novel - ten years in the making - that puts an engrossing new spin on the traditional haunted-house tale.
