died at the Battle of Jutland in 1915 alone) but many in Britain have been appalled that it was not until Having been sequestered in the castle since he was a boy, Tal lived in their shadows. His coming-of-age tour would be his best chance to grow into his own, but it would be especially difficult if he never managed to arrive at the starting port. He was both anxious and eager to start. Anxious because everything could go wrong, and eager to get it over with. Of course, Garrett had had to stop to investigate a burning boat. The plot was pretty solid. Fun and full of action, danger, and romance. A family that loves and cares for each other deeply, in spite of Tal's dangerous and secret magic threatening to destroy their kingdom, in particular. I loved the similarities between the book and The Little Mermaid. There weren't a lot of them but they were clear. Like Athlen's red hair and collection of various thingamabobs. His bargain with the seawitch for human legs (only he can switch between tail and legs at will), and of course, saving a handsome prince from a burning ship (although, it was the prince who set the ship on fire but...semantics 😋). Garrett sighed and scrubbed a hand over his short hair. “What’s your name, boy?” He said it in the way he talked to their younger sister when she was upset, the way he used to talk to Tal when he was frightened. Athlen turned away from Tal and strode toward Garrett, stopping when the chain jerked tight. “Hey! That’s mine. I found it.”

Tal didn’t have the heart to argue. He’d sealed a promise with magic in front of a prisoner. He’d given himself away. He’d made the mistake his mother had warned him about within the first day of his journey. There’s more,” Shay said, shifting slightly. Shay was the royal house’s most stalwart soldier. She’d followed Garrett into skirmishes and squalls, protected Tal as a child, and earned a seat at the royal table with her unerring bravery. To see her unsettled twisted Tal’s stomach even more. “There is something you should come see.” Her gaze cut to Tal and she stopped short, her eyes narrowing. “You should come as well, Your Highness.” In Deeper Waters is a pleasant romp through a fun fantasy world. It reminded me a lot of Makiia Lucier’s Tower of Winds series, which I also really adored. There’s darkness, there’s lightness, there’s powerful magic and high seas adventure and sugary sweet romance. Although this is marketed as a standalone, I would happily accept several more books set in this world, especially one starring the runaway polyamorous princess. If you need a book that will make you smile, this is the book for you.

Tal nodded. “I know.” He ran a hand through his hair and tugged on the ends. “There are already rumors among the crew. They look at me.” This book was utterly charming and so sweet. It felt a little like The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, a little like Carry On, but yet all its own. I really enjoyed all of these characters and their immediate acceptance of people’s differences. Garrett laughed. “Shay, such formality. It’s just Tally. You’ve known him since he was a squalling baby.”

reddorakeen on Beyond The Exorcist: Five Movies That Explore Possession From Non-Christian Perspectives 4 hours ago Athlen didn’t respond. He sat on the floor against a small trunk, knees pulled to his chest. His knobby fingers dug into the calf muscle of the leg that was still fettered, and he flinched, features twisting in pain. He peered up at Tal, expression guarded. I read that one faster; but only because currently I'm in a reading slump. this was interesting too. & it helped me out of my slump. I didn’t really have prior knowledge of the plot going in—I simply loved the themes hinted to in the synopsis and had major heart-eyes for that book cover. To be honest, I think a limited knowledge of the story probably worked in my favour, as I was able to be wowed and excited as the action and romance unfolded. Fine,” Garrett said, draping his arm over Tal’s shoulders. “Don’t look so sour. I understand. You’re sixteen and don’t want to be babied by your older siblings.”Fastlane NextGen: Initial Certification Search" (Type "Deep Water" in the search box). Louisiana Economic Development . Retrieved May 10, 2020. What secrets are Athlen hiding? Will they help Tal or put him in more danger? Can Tal warn his family about what is happening before war breaks out? And can two very different young men from two different walks of life find happiness? There are lots of obstacles to overcome. Palmer, Roger (December 13, 2021). " "Deep Water" Moving To Hulu". Also, not a big fan of the romance. Very insta-lovey (you've known this guy for 2 days and he's the love of your life??), which is something I really hate in fiction. If you're fine with it, you'll probably enjoy the book a lot more than I did, at least. It was still sort of cute at times, I guess. I didn't hate it as much as I hated the romance in The Friend Scheme (idk if that's even possible tbh) so that's something. Deep Water was released on Hulu on March 18, 2022, following several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s not a promising start,” Garrett said. He nodded toward his sailors, who were gathered in the room. “Everyone out. Find him a shirt and boots.” Then he asked the boy, “Do you know where the key is?” Shay straightened and gripped the sword at her side. “Of course, Commander. In hindsight, he may be too sensitive for what we’ve found.” Moreover, the side characters where one of the best parts of the book! I love how each and every one of Tal’s siblings had their own distinct personalities. Kest was courageous and kind, much like Tal. On the other hand, Garret was spontaneous and outgoing. His sisters where also strong and resilient. Adding on to that, I really loved how In Deeper Waters contains such powerful women. From Tal’s bodyguard, to a fiery sea captain, women can do it all!

Despite Garrett’s continued questions, they didn’t learn anything else from Athlen. Minutes dragged by until Shay returned with a shirt and an ax. She tossed the shirt to Athlen, and he stared at it before pulling it over his head. Unlike Tal, his siblings, or Athlen the antagonists did not get the benefit of nuanced character development. There were hints of interesting things roiling under their surfaces, but because the novel centered on Tal, the readers only saw what little the antagonists cared to show him. And they don’t care to show him (or us) much until too close to the end. It also has the unintended side effect of making the ending feel rushed.

Prince Tal has long awaited his coming-of-age tour. After spending most of his life cloistered behind palace walls as he learns to keep his forbidden magic secret, he can finally see his family’s kingdom for the first time. His first taste of adventure comes just two days into the journey, when their crew discovers a mysterious prisoner on a burning derelict vessel. The sound of footsteps descending on the ladder broke the moment, and the boys sprang apart. Tal’s cheeks flushed as red as the setting sun and felt equally as hot. I believe he’s asked you not to call him that. Several times. Since we left port… yesterday.” Shay’s smile broke forth, wide and playful. James Davis Nicoll on Five SF Visions of Society Free From Rules, Regulations, or Effective Government 2 hours ago Tal ran to the railing, prepared to jump after, but Garrett grabbed him around the middle. “No. Tal, no,” he said as Tal struggled in his arms.I most definitely was not having fun at the expense of those I love. I am Prince Taliesin of Harth, fourth child of Queen Carys, and you will obey my command. Is that clear?” DigiCom on Five SF Visions of Society Free From Rules, Regulations, or Effective Government 6 mins ago The synopsis of "In Deeper Waters" sounded very promising, and I’m happy to report that the story really held up! It was easy to understand, and the world building was done incredibly well. There was no info dumping, nor was it written vaguely. The adventure was such a fun time too. I adored every minute of it! I found this high fantasy story to be all things compelling. I adored the characters, their romance, and the magic-fused world they inhabited. The world-building was easy and fun, but vivid and immersive—which is the best kind of world-building, in my opinion.
