When I first started wearing my hair curly, cream seemed the most intuitive and then I tried mousse to see what it did. Can I be honest? I didn’t expect much to happen; I couldn’t see how a serum would hold a curl or wave. In retrospect, the name should have been a giveaway. ‘Curl Building Serum’. Boy, does it build. What’s even more interesting is that, from further research, I’ve realised that the more I scrunch, the more it builds curls. Seriously. Since that first try, I’ve used it EVERY time I’ve worn my hair curly. Because curly hair is more vulnerable, replacing your cotton pillowcase with a silk or satin one could help minimise breakage overnight. A silk or satin pillowcase allows the hair to glide more freely, rather than cotton, which can pull on the hair strands and leave it feeling frizzy and out of control when you awaken! Your stress levels I’ve also refreshed with it. I sprayed a piece of hair with water, and then I added a drop of the serum and went to town with the scrunching. It works a treat.Curly Girl Friendly? It isn’t. However, if you are ok with this, I would like to mention that it contains amodimethicone – an intelligent silicone that helps repair damaged, porous hair and won’t build up on itself. Before you apply make sure your curls/coils are fully hydrated with lots of water. This will not affect the performance of the gel oil and will reduce frizz. Once applied and you have styled your hair, either by scrunching or twisting your curls, don’t touch your hair until its dry. This will also reduce frizz. Once your hair is totally dry use dry hands and the pads of your finger tips to massage your scalp giving you root lift and help really bring out your stunning curls! For finer hair and type 2 waves: I highly recommend Davines Curl Building Serum. Use it to enhance your curls and give them definition.

Regardless of your specific type of curl, curls in general are more delicate than straight or slightly wavy hair. The shape of the curled strand makes it more prone to breaking, drying out, and becoming tangled. When running a brush through tangled curls, it’s easy to damage strands, prompting frizziness and split ends. This is where curl type comes in. Full disclosure; if you have a strong 3B or higher curl pattern, Davines Curl Building Serum may not give you the hold you want, and you probably won’t find it that different to a light gel.I’m not a huge fan of the 2/3/4 curl type system, but I’m going to use it here for a sec to explain what I mean.
