In Edwardian London, George and Mary Darling's preparations to attend a party are disrupted by the antics of their boys, John and Michael, who are acting out a Peter Pan story told them by their elder sister Wendy. An irritated George demands that Wendy drop the stories and move out of the nursery, since "sooner or later, people have to grow up". Later that night, Peter himself arrives in the nursery to find his lost shadow. He persuades Wendy to come to Never Land, where she will never have to grow up, and she and the boys fly there with the begrudging help of the pixie Tinker Bell. With the creation of Peter Pan, author and playwright J.M. Barrie came up with a character who would go on to delight audiences for more than a century. Over the years, Peter Pan has appeared on stage, television and in the movies, in iterations that include Disney’s beloved 1953 animated film. Come Away (2020), a film that portrays Peter Pan as the brother of Alice from Lewis Carroll's story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The cast includes Jordan Nash as Peter, as well as Angelina Jolie, David Oyelowo, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw Erao, Math (March 16, 2021). It was the first time that this form of the title was used, later reused also for Barrie's own novel The two begin making their way toward a set of mountains in the distance, discovering along the way that Wendy likes Thorn, whilst Tinkerbell only has eyes for Peter Pan. As they follow along what seems to be a riverbed, Wendy reasons that they're being led upon a path that goes nowhere, and wonders if she's being tested by The First. Together, Wendy and Tinkerbell consider that Wendy's dreams seem to affect Neverland, thus potentially meaning that they could be used to help them out of their present situation.

Six months later, during a storyboard meeting, Kinney presented a two-and-a-half-hour presentation, during which Disney sat silently and then stated, "You know, I've been thinking about Cinderella."
