At just 5 years old, Melissa Gilbert had her first acting role in a commercial for Alpo dog food. This early start paved the way for her successful acting career. She Rose to Fame as Laura Ingalls on “Little House on the Prairie” As an autobiography, it wasn't bad, but there were way too many names dropped and it really started to get irritating. It seems like Melissa Gilbert feels the need to include the name of every celebrity she's ever met, worked with or waved to on the street.

I started a particularly hellish spiral of celebrity trashy memoirs this summer that all began with the reading of Rob Lowe's book. Both Little House on the Prairie stars wrote memoirs and books about their time on the set. Melissa Gilbert’s book, Prairie Tale, came out in February of 2010. Her memoir includes a bit more of her personal life beyond just her time on the show. For instance, she talks about her own drug use which led to an up-and-down celebrity dating career including stints with Billy Idol and Rob Lowe.

Retrieved May 8, 2012. To fans of the hugely successful television series Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Gilbert grew up in a fantasy world with a larger-than-life father, friends and family she could count on, and plenty of animals to play with. Children across the country dreamed of the Ingalls’ idyllic life—and so did Melissa. I very much enjoyed Little House on the Prairie as a child and even as an adult so I was excited to read this. It was written about her experience leaving the LA lifestyle and moving into the country as Covid hit and the world was altered. Each chapter documents a point in her time during Covid and how she and her husband adapted to a whole new lifestyle. That part was great because it was totally relatable. I wish she would have stopped there rather than adding her stance that had nothing to do with the topic at hand. It was enjoyable to see a star go from Beverly Hills to a country house with no heat and fix it up and how her and her family got through the pandemic. That’s what I signed up for. The other stuff I could do without. The book showed the choices Melissa made throughout her life. Her choices is what created her to be the way she is. Each choice shapes who she is becoming. Then there are the renters, like us—and that’s when Tim began scrolling on Zillow and I began aligning myself with reality. Because when we first talked about looking for a country place, I was like anyone else. I dreamed big. I pictured a beautifully furnished vintage farmhouse with carefully curated grounds including rolling green fields, orchards, gardens, and woods, ready for its Architectural Digest photo shoot. It would have a pool, a bar, and a corral for the horses. It would be move-in ready. And then I woke up. Best Known For: Melissa Gilbert came to fame playing Laura Ingalls on the NBC period drama series Little House on the Prairie (1974-82).

Overall, Melissa Gilbert’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose. Her impact on the entertainment industry and her dedication to various causes make her a true icon deserving of admiration. ConclusionI have to admit that I was a little disappointed that Melissa Gilbert felt a need to use so much profanity throughout the book. It was really hard for me to read through most of the chapters because of the profanity. I enjoyed the last few chapters because they were profanity free. This is hard for me to review because while I enjoyed a good bit of this, her politics got in the way of my enjoyment so I’m going to keep my review short. After Little House, her life accelerated and she ended up living in the Hollywood fast lane. She and Rob Lowe had an on-again-off-again complicated relationship for six years. She was very well-connected in the insular world of Hollywood as well. At first, I thought there was some serious name-dropping, but I soon realized that it's just the way life is in Hollywood. She had access to lots of cocaine. She dated tons of actors, had flings with most of them, all while trying to keep some type of equilibrium in her life. She struggled with her self-esteem and her looks opting for both a nose job and breast augmentation. Her marriage to Bo Brinkman was doomed from the beginning and her subsequent marriage to Bruce Boxleitner, despite writing that it was solid, seemed on a shaky foundation at best. (I realized that this memoir was published in 2009. I was right about that shaky foundation. Although she ends her memoir on a positive note writing that her life is in a good place especially her marriage, since the publication of Prairie Tale, she's now divorced again and now married to Timothy Busfield.) She was happy sharing recipes for comfort foods. Not sure how many actually eat those heavy foods, but she admitted to gaining 30 lbs. the first winter! Their move was successful, and they were happy at the Cabbage.
