McElhinny, Brian (15 April 2010). "The story behind Raise the Jolly Roger, told by Greg Brown himself". Blog: Raise the Jolly Roger . Retrieved 7 October 2013.

International extortionist Gregori Benares marries a lovely young Englishwoman and takes her to Rome; they stay in a villa where the butler is John Drake. An ally of the shy wife and implacable enemy of the sadistic Benares, Drake exposes the man's kidnapping plot. Drake is sent to Jamaica to identify an M9 double agent operating from a luxury hotel but who spends his time drinking and lying on the beach much to his superiors' annoyance. For example, Welsh pirate Bartholomew Roberts sometimes "used a flag that had his own self-portrait on it with a bleeding heart, so he could symbolise himself as this all-powerful pirate", Simon says. Before changing to a stylized "P", Sweden's Pirate Party used the Jolly Roger as its symbol, which is still used extensively in the Pirate movement. The Piratbyrån and its online database, The Pirate Bay also use either the skull and crossbones symbol, or derivatives of it, such as the logo of Home Taping Is Killing Music. For a start the human chameleon John Drake becomes the cool DJ Johnny Drake, or JD. How cool is that?During the Vietnam war an urgent airfield was needed at Quảng Trị by the United States forces. U.S. Seabee Battalions 1, 3, 4, 7, 11, 74, 121, and 133 all sent detachments of men and equipment to get the job done. Construction of the airfield necessitated the removal of 11,000 graves. Those detachments dubbed themselves the Ghost Battalion and chose the Jolly Roger for the Battalion's colours. [63] Francis Spriggs is reported to have flown a Jolly Roger identical to one of Low's, from whom he had deserted: "a white Skeliton in the Middle of it, with a Dart in one Hand striking bleeding Heart, and in the other, an Hour-Glass." [6] When the M9 regional controller is captured in Bulgaria, Drake must effect a rescue before he talks under torture.

NetworkDVD have announced they will be releasing The Complete Series 1 Boxset in January 2010. The set contains a book by Andrew Pixley which makes it a must buy. Frank Delroy, an American banker is murdered and five million dollars is missing. Drake travels to Italy to find the money. In Sicily, Drake finds out the truth about the death of another agent who was investigating a gun-running operation. Drake provokes the jealousy of a political assassin ( Derren Nesbitt), wanted by the Parisian police, to leave the safety of Beirut. Edward Low. Low used at least two other flags besides his famous red skeleton. One was "a white Skeliton in the Middle of it, with a Dart in one Hand striking bleeding Heart, and in the other, an Hour-Glass." [6] The other was described by George Roberts, a prisoner of Low's, as a call to council among Low's ships: "a green silk flag with a yellow figure of a man blowing a trumpet on it." [35]
