Unlike the Doctor's other foes, the Cybermen costumes have changed substantially in appearance over the years, looking more and more modern, although retaining certain commonalities of design, the most iconic being the "handles" attached to Cybermen heads. [15] Other design elements include their round eyeholes and their chest units. This incredibly rare Timelord collar was made for the Tom Baker classic "Deadly Assasin" the collars were designed by renowned costume designer Jim Acherson. Six of each chapter were made and reused in subsequent story's featuring the Timelords. The Doctor Who Team (6 March 2017). "Original Mondasian Cybermen return to Doctor Who!". BBC Latest News – Doctor Who . Retrieved 8 May 2017. When they re-emerged after the Cyber-Wars, the Cybermen appeared to be truly emotionless, although the Cyber-Planner " Mr Clever" showed personality. ( TV: Nightmare in Silver) The Cybermen that evolved on a Mondasian colony ship were also emotionless, although Bill Potts showed anger and sadness in her cyber-converted form. ( TV: The Doctor Falls)

I had trouble printing the pipes for the Cyberman head because the vertical (when mounted) sections are hollow. I filled the pipes using OpenSCAD but couldn't get it to render both models together so I had to go through the following process:Pixley, Andrew; Morris, Jonathan; Atkinson, Richard; McGown, Alistair; Hadoke, Toby (5 October 2016). "Revenge of the Cybermen: Pre-production". Doctor Who: The Complete History. Vol.23. Panini Magazines/ Hachette Partworks Ltd. p.61. Cybermen made survival their central objective. Since they could not reproduce naturally, they needed to create new members of their population through cyber-conversion. At times they tended to focus on converting the population of Earth, at other times on simply destroying it. ( TV: The Tomb of the Cybermen) They deemed "upgrading" compatible lifeforms to be a necessity: not only did it help ensure their survival by growing their numbers, they also deemed it to be logical to remove emotion and natural mortality from others, seeing it as a way to bring about true equality and peace. ( TV: Doomsday, The Doctor Falls) In the 1960s, "spare-part" surgery began with the development of gigantic heart-lung machines. Public discussion included the possibility of wiring amputees' nerve endings directly into machines. [2] In 1963, Kit Pedler discussed with his wife (who was also a doctor) what would happen if a person had so many prostheses that they could no longer distinguish themselves between man and machine. [3] He got the opportunity to develop this idea when, in 1966, after an appearance on the BBC science programmes Tomorrow's World and Horizon, the BBC hired him to consult on the Doctor Who serial The War Machines (1966). [4] That eventually led to him writing, with Gerry Davis, The Tenth Planet (1966) for Doctor Who. Tynan, Alexandra; Cook, Benjamin (November 2016). "The Cybermum". Doctor Who Magazine. No.504. Tunbridge Wells: Panini UK Ltd. pp.15–17. Cybermen affected by the Cerebration Mentor, an emotion-enhancing device, went "mad". ( TV: The Invasion)

The collar is made from a low fibre content fibreglass and is very fragile, the cap is made from a stiffened felt, only around four collars are known to survive. a b "BBC One - Doctor Who, Season 6, the Invasion, Episode 7, the Invasion: Episode 7". 14 December 1968. Then, the marvellous Gary Gillatt game to the rescue and connected the last of the dots. Mr Gillatt pointed out that the Mystery Cyberman photos were in the BBC Picture Library all grouped together with famous studio shots of the Ambassador and Silurian on their own. They were photographed at the same time - but not in January. When I mentioned this curious Cyberman to my fellow researcher Jon Green, he came up with something else of interest which I'd forgotten. Although it wasn't necessarily directly connected, it was clearly part of the same story of these dormant costumes. It is labelled inside with the actors name “Christophe Christou” who is credited to the story “Invasion of Time” although it is almost certain he would have worn this helmet in “Deadly Assassin” but was not credited. The helmet would then have been used in most Timelord story’s of the 1980’s. By 2070, the Cybermen were known and feared in several galaxies ( PROSE: Doctor Who and the Cybermen) but were thought extinct by Earth. At this time the Earth's weather was controlled by the Gravitron installation in the Moonbase. The Faction planned to use the Gravitron to disrupt Earth's weather and destroy all life on the planet. ( TV: The Moonbase) According to Terri Willis in 2136, the Cybermen practically disappeared from human space after this event. ( PROSE: The Murder Game) The Cybermen started as the patients, who escorted humans from the city to the hospital for conversion, ( TV: World Enough and Time) and also travelled to the higher floors and captured any other humans on the colony ship for cyber-conversion, including the remaining Mondasian crew members on Floor 0000. ( TV: World Enough and Time, PROSE: Jorj) During their development, the Master incorporated a number of functions into the patients that would allow him to control the patients upon their evolution into full Cybermen, ( PROSE: Alit in Underland) in a bid to use the Cybermen that would arise on Floor 1056 as his personal army ( TV: The Doctor Falls) to conquer the galaxy. ( PROSE: Alit in Underland) They are made by converse, an interesting point is that the converse logo has been removed and sprayed over with brown latex paint this is because some of the publicity photos are close ups and copy wright laws would not permit the logo being seen, they are labeled inside "the doctor". There were also Cyber-drones, partially converted humans, worker units who were used for the slave labour. ( COMIC: Enemy Mine)
