Description

We loved Esiri's Poem for Every Day of the Year and Poem for Every Night of the Year, and we're huge Shakespeare fans, so we were all excited for Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year. Confesso che non tutti i brani mi sono piaciuti e, in alcuni casi, ho trovato la scelta dell’estratto strana.

Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year - Goodreads

I got this book from good reads first reads. It has been most enjoyable having a little Shakespeare every day. The selected passages are not too long and the front runner asides before each were also enjoyable. It is fun to see the seasons through the different days and works. A good selection. By publishing your document, the content will be optimally indexed by Google via AI and sorted into the right category for over 500 million ePaper readers on YUMPU. A magnificent collection of 365 passages from Shakespeare’s works, for the Shakespeare scholar and neophyte alike. The book also includes synopses of each play, a comprehensive timeline covering Shakespeare's life, major historical events and offering context for his works, and an index of works which gathers the extracts under the title of the work they come from. Unfortunately, it ended up not being a great fit for this season. Each day offers a passage from one of Shakespeare's plays or poems, and while Esiri does attempt to give a little explanation for the passage, Shakespeare's work is so much more powerful in context. The girls were excited to revisit passages from plays we've studied, but since we've only read ten of his plays together, there were many passages that they didn't have any context for.

This is the perfect book if you find Shakespeare and the language overwhelming. It would be ideal for high schoolers and university students, studying literature. Allie Esiri, described in a Tatler profile as 'a poetry powerhouse', is a former English stage, film and television actress, now a writer. Beautifully produced, this is something to wallow in. Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year does precisely what it says on the tin; three hundred and sixty five extracts from Shakespeare for every day of the year. It cover "sonnets, soliloquies, quotes and extracts" and rather delightfully pairs these with a little note of introduction for the relevant time of the year. So, for example, February 14th sees sonnet 29 "When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes" and a paragraph talking about how Valentine's Day was handled in Shakespeare's, er, day. April 1st sees a witty extract from As You Like It whilst November 5th sees Macbeth and Lady Macbeth discuss their plot to bring down the King.
