I’ve been writing stories and poems since I was eight years old. My first poem was about Halloween: "What is tonight? What is tonight?/Try to guess and you’ll guess right." Perhaps this inauspicious beginning explains why it took me till I was in my thirties to sell a novel. It occurred to me early on that it might take some time and a lot of tries before I was able to publish any of my creative writing, so I pursued a degree in journalism at Northwestern University so I’d be able to support myself while I figured out how to write fiction. Most of the stories on this list are told from the point of view of humans, but Watts’s short story “The Things” flips that on its head, telling the story of Carpenter’s The Thing from the perspective of the invading alien beings. Just as we are disgusted by the distorted shapes that the Thing takes on while transforming, it is equally disgusted by our individuality and inability (and unwillingness) to change. In this story, it’s humans that are the creatures. The characters in this are wonderful, although with a number of main pov characters I would have liked more time to get to know each of them better. a b Miska, Brad (July 15, 2015). "Shudder: Horror Streaming Service Launches". Bloody Disgusting . Retrieved January 3, 2017. This is a return to form for Shinn. I loved the imaginative world she has created here and loved the apocalyptic feel of it, with the action taking place amongst constant earthquakes. I also liked how she plays with the 'is this fantasy or sci-fi' idea, which she has done in some of my favourites. I also enjoyed the different characters (we have 4 POV characters, plus quite a few really interesting secondary ones) and how they are operating independently, and also how we slowly find out how they fit together (when I understood exactly how one particular strand fit, I literally gasped). This was an engrossing, good-quality horror novel. I believe this was the third or fourth novel I have read by Ania Ahlborn and as with the previous reads this did not disappoint but unfortunately had a few issues which led me to only give this three stars. If you disregard the horror tropes, this was still well-written with a creepy atmosphere, gripping side stories of other people getting absolutely mauled to death from the monsters, and you silently praying that for once, the dog makes it out alive.

A group of friends head to a isolated cabin in the Colorado mountains to go snowboarding. They were not at all prepared for what unfolded. I think horror buffs would love this if not only for the creatures, they are amazing, and Oona of course. The Shuddering” by Ania Ahlborn started out red-hot right out the gate which always makes me happy as a reader. I love horror and at first, I started to enjoy the characters and the suspense that came with what exactly was going on. Ahlborn does a nice job of building up the tension while revealing bits and pieces here and there. There was a little bit of action in the beginning of the book and then there is a slow buildup of suspense that took me awhile to find out what was going on and to find out what kind of creature was waiting within the story.

I absolutely loved this book! I “shuddered” through the whole thing. I was terrified and I loved it! When I finished it I had to take my dog out and it is dark and foggy outside. I was looking all around incredibly creeped out.

In late 2016, Shudder began carving out windows of exclusivity, premiering Rob Zombie's 31 two weeks before the DVD release [15] and exclusively carrying the 4K restoration of Don Coscarelli's Phantasm. [3] In another streaming exclusive, in March 2017, Shudder began carrying the full 109-minute unrated version of The Devils. This is the first time since the film's release in 1971 that the unrated cut of the film has been available in the United States. [16] In June 2017, Shudder announced a full slate of original series in development, including Riprore, from director Patty Jenkins, and an adaptation of Emily Schultz's novel, The Blondes. [17] In 2018, Shudder continued to release exclusive and original films and series, including Mayhem starring Steven Yeun and Samara Weaving, Downrange directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, Revenge, and the Syfy series Channel Zero and others. [18] It could be due to worn-out friction material or a pressure plate defect (or combination of both). It could also be caused by an oil leak contaminating the clutch plate. A clogged filter or fuel injection system can starve your engine of fuel or oxygen, causing your car to judder and shake. When a blizzard hits, they become snowed in and the agitation reaches a new peak. The group ends up separating as April and Sawyer try to depart the property. This is the trolley problem on a big scale and it's interesting to see how the different characters approach it.There is a lot about their relationships in here and I was more horrified by that than the monsters! [Book Review] Ania Ahlborn’s ‘The Shuddering’ Is 30% Awesome

The monsters are scary in such a way that the author leaves a lot to the imagination when she is describing these creatures. She definitely describes them and does it well, however I still don't have an exact print out in my head of what these monsters look like. Which to me is great because I love that the author left it up to us to decide what they truly look like. It makes for a scarier story. Ed Gieskes on The Secret of the Sul’Dam: Subtle Changes to the Way the One Power Works in The Wheel of Time TV Series 42 mins ago The Shuddering reads, to me, exactly what it feels like to watch a horror movie where the main cast of characters are a group of friends being stalked by a monster - or monsters in this case. Not a slasher, like Nightmare On Elm Street, a creature feature, like The Descent. But set in a snowy landscape, not within the depths of an underground cave. If you are heading down a motorway or A road a speed and notice your car shaking and stuttering, then you could have an issue. Shinn excels at creating interesting and relatable cultures and religions, and the bracelet system of identification (pronouns, sexual identity and family make up) used here is elegant in it's simplicity. You just show your bracelets to everyone you meet!that being said, this one isn’t my favorite. However, I am so grateful for a new book from her . . . she works full time on a trade journal but I wish she published as frequently as Nora Roberts! This was the first Ania Ahlborn book I’ve read, and I must say I’m impressed, she seems like a fresh voice in horror fiction who writes engaging and fast-paced stories. I can see why she is talked about so often in horror groups and on booktok.
