Description

It found that there was no real difference in acceptance when it came to different styles of head collar. The first consideration when exercising puppies is the closure of the growth plates; growth plates are soft areas that sit at the ends of the long bones in puppies and young dogs. Until the growth plates close, they are soft and vulnerable to injury. In puppies, this closure is normally completed by approximately 18 months old and until this time, exercise should be carefully monitored. This is important as unlike a sprain, injuries to the growth plate may not heal properly and are likely to be problematic for life! As a rule of thumb puppies should have 5 mins of exercise, per month of age twice daily. For example, a 5 month old puppy can have 2 x 25 minutes. However, the Halti is specifically designed to associate pulling with a negative consequence for your dog. Are Haltis Comfortable for Dogs?

So, to avoid this, choose to train your dog using positive reinforcement methods. This will take time and won’t solve your pulling problem immediately. Leaving a Halti on your dog long-term can be cruel, as it is only designed for short periods. Leaving it on long term can cause fur loss and other injuries. Keep in mind that it will take less time to properly train your dog to wear a dog head halter in the first place than it will take you to “fix” a dog that has had a bad experience and is scared of the dog head halter!PERFECT FIT - the Halti No Pull Harness comes in 3 different sizes and is fully adjustable to fit most dogs.Use our size guide to find your dog's perfect fit This collar has two humane training modes, vibration and beep. The vibration mode also has two options, vibrate and strong vibrate. Depending on your dog’s nature, you can set it on sensitivity levels from 0–5. So when we first got Chris and Danny, it was an adjustment. Mia, slowing down then has never been a puller like I say, but Chris and Danny are now both adults, Chris is 4 and Danny is 5 or 6. This meant I was constantly monitoring and adjusting. A toggle to prevent movement might help. Even if it was set to give a little leeway, it would stop it from needing to be re-adjusted so often.

As we’ve learnt earlier in this guide to ‘what is a Halti’, this type of head harness has a loop that attaches around your dog’s snout. For new puppy owners who are beginning to train their dogs to walk to heel and to behave appropriately on the lead, pulling is a very common problem-which may potentially be solved with the use of a Halti-style collar. However, they are by no means the only or even best option for all pups that pull, and puppy owners should think carefully before using a Halti on a puppy, as well as being clear about its benefits and limitations, and potential problems. This means the action of pulling is paired with an unpleasant consequence, making dogs less likely to do it. Most body harnesses aren’t aversive. They are simply designed to distribute pressure over a larger area of your dog’s body than a traditional dog collar would.Halti is the creator of the world’s first headcollar for dogs, “solving lead pulling problems for over 40 years”. This headcollar prevents pulling by gently steering and guiding your dog’s direction. It is made from strong, but lightweight nylon webbing, designed for comfort with adjustable nose and cheek straps and a padded neoprene noseband that won’t interfere with panting, eating or drinking. A Halti is one of many aversive training tools. Evidence suggests that aversive methods like this can actually be detrimental to the physical and mental health of our dogs, as well as less effective.
