Description

Read, improvised and embellished by Rob and Josh, with special guest appearances by their wives Rose and Lou, podcast producer Michael and Rob's parents Sue and Dave. It's a collection of funny anecdotes, a nice light-hearted read that you'll love if you enjoy the podcast! The comedic duo perfectly captured the thoughts and feelings of how life altering it really is when becoming a Dad, in this really refreshingly honest way.

It's just so relatable - I don't even particularly like other people's kids and I think this is why this works. I’ve laughed so much but also cried when Listening to josh talk about their miscarriage, I read a lot and all sorts of books, i’ve rarely done audible but I would recommend this as audio it’s a joy to listen to. However, by listening to the audio it felt like you were listening to the podcast and It made the whole thing more enjoyable and I would highly recommend. It tells the story of the end of an era, the last time when watching television was a shared experience for the family and the nation, before the internet meant everyone watched different things at different times on different devices, headphones on to make absolutely sure no one else could watch it with them. I laughed out loud many times and once had to go into another room because I thought I might wake my sleeping husband. I was a huge fan of the podcast - saved me during a rough time when I had a lot of self doubt as a new parent. And just when they thought it couldn't get any harder, why didn't anyone warn them about the slices of unmatched euphoric joy and pride that occasionally come piercing through, drenching you in unbridled happiness in much the same way a badly burped baby drenches you in milk-sick?

Using a different television show of the time as its starting point for each chapter Watching Neighbours Twice a Day… is part-childhood memoir, part-comic history of 90s television and culture.I suspect I might have enjoyed the audiobook version better, and/or if I already listened to the podcast (might have to now!

Blijkt dat de herkenbaarheid, de humor, relativeren en lachen met je vroegere zelf omdat we ook “die ouders” geweest zijn een perfecte manier is om zomervakantiedagen af te sluiten. Reading this has made me realise how much I miss the podcast and will probably try and figure out how to move over to Spotify so I can listen to it again! I am a mum, daughter and now a grandmother and the stories, and feelings are so relatable, the added interviews with Lou and Rose (their wives) their parents and Michael (the podcast producer) were all great added chapters, the banter was fantastic and you can see why they are so fulfilled in their hectic lives, it may not be a literary masterpiece however it is everything I wanted it to be. I think I missed the purpose of the book and downloaded it as I had spare audible credits to use up.The reason as to why I gave the book 3 stars is that even though it was hilarious, I just didn’t relate to it whatsoever as I don’t have children. In his first memoir, Josh Widdicombe tells the story of a strange rural childhood, the kind of childhood he only realised was weird when he left home and started telling people about it. But these guys talk about coming home from a job tired only to have an excited toddler jumping around all evening in such a relatable way.
