For your first game, it’s recommended that you start with Boss Deck 1 – The Root Pack, and for this review we’ll only be discussing this boss. It is a perfect game for players who enjoy a deep strategic experience and enjoy the feeling of trying to outsmart their opponents. And given that some scoring depends on placing your tile next to others of a certain type, you really need to be able to see them.

Players can also earn victory points by being the King of Tokyo, which is the player who controls the city at the end of the game. You’ll also start with the Boss Board in the centre of the play area alongside various tokens and Wallop cards. It naturally encourages discussion between the players: the old woman swallowed small things, then big things, but did she finish with a cow or a horse? With the aim of building the best bird sanctuary, players will need resources to grow their bird population and upgrade their sanctuaries as well. One thing you might have noticed throughout this review is the artwork, masterfully illustrated by Kwanchai Moriya. From classic games like Yahtzee and Liar’s Dice to more modern games like Roll for the Galaxy and King of Tokyo, there are a variety of dice-based board games that are sure to provide hours of entertainment.

Dice can only be placed in certain spaces on the player board, determined by the game’s restrictions and the player’s chosen tool cards.Escape: The Curse of the Temple comes with a 10-minute soundtrack, which acts as a countdown: escape the temple before it ends or else you lose. Additional time was taken because players had to examine all of the tiles on offer to determine which was the best one for them at the time.

You’ll continue taking rounds throughout the course of the game until one resource is completely out. After you roll your workers pull out any that are standing upright or on their sides and keep rolling until at least half your meeples are out of the box.

When you finish rolling, you can choose to score what you rolled—or grab an additional three dice and keep rolling. Flat meeples are tired and provide no benefit, and in case if too many of your workers are laying flat it means your work force has gone on strike because you’re overworking them (more on that later). Sadly Rolling Heights doesn’t differentiate between a meeple on its head vs one on its side, because that would be awesome. Finally, completed tiles will allow you to grow your workforce by the number of meeples indicated at the bottom of the tile.
