Description

Sonea, the ex street urchin turned Black Magician, is shocked when she finds out that her son, Lorkin, has volunteered to help Dannyl in his new role as Guild Ambassador to Sachaka—a land where the barbaric black magicians reign supreme. An unskilled magician is on the loose in Imardin, and the Guild must find her before she utterly destroys herself and the city.

The Characters: Beautiful and wayward Thalamika, handmaiden to the Queen of Crete and Priestess to the Goddess. The pageantry of ritual dances, festivals to the Earth Mother and Poseidon, the daring and skill of young men and women trained as Bull Leapers for the Cretan Bull Games, the luxurious court of Knossos with its frescoed walls, its Nubian Guard, its slaves - all the fascination of this ancient civilization comes vividly to life in a story of very real people and emotions. Every aspect of The Traitor Queen, from its plot to its characters and world building, draws you in and keeps a hold of your attention throughout its entirety. While Ithicana's citizens despise her, Lara does everything in her power to rescue Aren from her father, and free Ithicana from her father. Aren finding Lara trying to stitch herself up after she is injured in the fight, and him helping her.

Aren might never forgive her for her betrayal, but Lara still loves him and is determined to free him from where he is being held captive in her father’s palace. From Alexandria in the ancient times to strange planets in the distant future, this collection of stories is as terrifying as it is hilarious and thought-provoking. The politics, religious culture, and rising conflict make for a great story and an effortless way to absorb an ancient culture. Two other notable characters we meet in this book are Keris, Lara’s brother and heir to the Maridrinian throne, and Zarrah, heir to the Valcottan throne. In 2001, she further established herself with The Magicians' Guild, centring on Sonea, a slum child who is hunted for her rogue magic.

Praise for The Bridge Kingdom - Heart-pounding romance and intense action wrapped in a spellbinding world. Welcoming Lorkin to the Traitors has however come at a cost to Dannyl, who has now lost the respect of the Sachakan elite. Her days are filled with efforts to reconcile the Dreamweavers and the priesthood, while her nights are filled with nightmares. Open Library is an initiative of the Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form.

That alone should tell you how good of a book this is, as I am not one to easily lose track of time. The Traitor Queen picks up shortly where The Bridge Kingdom ends off, with Lara being held in the dungeons, while her sister-in-law, Ahnna, decides what to do with her. Canavan states that until the age of 25 she dreamed of writing a novel but lacked the focus to do so.

Sonea has now earned the reluctant admiration of novices thanks to the knowledge she has acquired at the Magicians’ Guild. The novel, which was the first of three books of The Black Magician Trilogy, brought her widespread acclaim, and the second book of the trilogy, The Novice (2002), was nominated for the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel. While living among the Sachakan rebels, Lorkin does his best to learn about their very nature and rare magic.
