So many beautiful days aboard The Blue with a mystery that lasts until the end, as this book takes you on an exciting voyage where you will meet friends and discover the different shades of truth. Read more Auch die Auflösung enthielt mindestens einen Aspekt, der mich gestört hat und der, meiner Meinung nach, auch gar nicht nötig gewesen wäre (die Freundschaft von Kitty und Lana betreffend).

Dark secrets play a huge role in this book, as well as in your previous novels, A Single Breath and Swimming at Night. What is your attraction to characters with secrets? The Blue was a beautifully addictive novel, the tale of a friendship put to the test and a tense psychological thriller with some really great characters.

The Blue follows two deeply bonded best friends, Lana and Kitty, on the run from the UK police. Together they find refuge on a romantic yacht called The Blue, crewed by a group of enigmatic, beautiful people who sail through South East Asia living a life of endless beaches, ocean and parties. But The Blue harbours dark secrets and when greed and lust drive the crew to make some terrible moral compromises, it leads to the death of one of their own. The paradise and escape the girls thought they had found turns into a nightmare as Lana and Kitty find themselves far from home and in terrible danger. Overall then, a really great escapist read - I've had "A Single Breath" sat on my shelf for a while now, one of those books that fell accidentally into my basket on one particular shopping spree - and boy am I now moving that one up the pile. But soon Lana and Kitty begin to discover that they aren’t the only ones with secrets they’d rather run from than reveal. And when one of their new friends disappears overboard after an argument with the other crew members, the dark secrets that brought each of them aboard start to unravel. . . .

The theme at the center of the book is friendship, which is one of the most overdone themes in literature. But with this one I really felt it. It made me question my own life and left me in that place of not having an answer to some of the questions at the heart of the story. Throughout the book, it made me want to drop everything and set out on adventure, a feeling that is particularly relevant for me given the move that is looming in my own life, even if it is to Ohio and not to the Philippines or New Zealand. Lana and her best friend Kitty leave home looking for freedom—and that’s exactly what they find when they are invited onto The Blue, a fifty-foot yacht making its way from the Philippines to New Zealand. The crew is made up of a group of young travellers bitten by wanderlust, and it doesn’t take long for Lana and Kitty’s dream of sea-bound romance to turn into reality. Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.
