Description

Chestnuts are native to the northern hemisphere, particularly Europe, Asia, and North America. Chestnuts are larger compared to most other nuts, with a rounded shape and a size ranging from small to medium. They’ve made a resurgence in the USA after a blight wiped out most chestnut trees in the USA around 1900.

Blanco almonds are a variety of almonds grown primarily in Spain, and sometimes called marcona almonds. They are typically small to medium-sized and have a flat, rounded shape. Blanco almonds have a sweet, delicate flavor and a buttery, moist texture. Acta Mater 45:1557–1565. https://doi.org/10.1016/S1359-6454(96)00264-9 Lotus nuts, also called lotus seeds or makhana, are native to parts of Asia, including India and China. Lotus seeds are small, round, and flat, and have a mild, slightly sweet flavor. The peerless almond, also known as the sweet almond, is a common almond variety that is cultivated worldwide. Peerless almonds are similar in size and shape to other almond varieties. They typically measure around 1 to 1.5 centimeters in length, and have a mild, sweet flavor with a slightly buttery taste.

Photographs of an entire Macadamia integrifolia seed, showing the hilum, the micropyle and the outer suture (a, b). Canarium nuts are native to various regions of Asia, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. They are relatively small, about the size of a large almond. Canarium nuts have a mild and slightly sweet flavor, resembling a combination of almond and cashew. Gross, C. L.; Weston, P. H. (1992). Kola nuts come from the kola tree, which is native to the tropical rainforests of West Africa. Kola nuts are relatively large, about 5 to 10 centimeters in length. They have a bitter taste and contain caffeine, which contributes to their stimulant properties. Shigeura, Gordon T.; Ooka, Hiroshi (1984). Macadamia nuts in Hawaii: history and production (PDF). Honolulu, HI: University of Hawaii. p.8. Archived from the original (PDF) on 24 December 2016 . Retrieved 10 July 2017. Water caltrops are commonly used in Asian cuisine. They are often boiled or roasted and used in various dishes such as stir-fries, soups, and desserts. Water chestnuts are also popularly used in canned or fresh forms in Chinese dishes like stir-fries and spring rolls. They were oriented with their sutures vertical to the loading direction and their shorter dimension parallel to the loading direction ( fig. 1). “n” denotes the number of specimens tested. All values are mean values plus/minus standard deviations, if not denoted otherwise. The synthesis of magnetic AC was performed based on the method of Han et al. [ 28], with some modifications. Typically 100 mL of 0.13 M ferrous sulfate and 100 mL of 0.25 M ferric chloride solutions were mixed to obtain an Fe 2+/Fe 3+ molar ratio of 1 : 2. Subsequently, AC (5 g) was added, and the mixture was heated to 65°C. Having cooled the mixture to 40°C, 5M sodium hydroxide solution was added until the solution’s pH reached 10.0. After stirring for another 1 h, the mixture was impregnated overnight. The precipitate was then washed with deionized water until a pH of 7 was reached and dried at 80°C. 2.4. Material Characterizations Effect of Macadamia Nutshells on CBR of Cement Stabilized Soils Figure 6 depicts the relationship between CBR of cement stabilized soils and macadamia nutshells. From the figure, the general trend is that the CBR values decreased as the MNS content increased. The stabilized soil with 0% MNS initially had a CBR of 230% that gradually decreased to 180% and 130% on the addition of 5% and 10% MNS, respectively. At 15% MNS there was a sudden rise in the CBR value as it increased to 220% after which the CRB value plummeted to its lowest point of 94% at 20% MNS. A slight rise in CBR value was then observed at 25% MNS. The sclereid cells are almost always isodiametric in the outer shell region, and they become more and more ellipsoidal, dumbbell- or kidney-shaped with increasing distance from the outer testa surface ( fig. 11a & b). The ratio of the biggest to the smallest cell dimension ranges up to 3∶1. The sclereids have diameters of between 20 to 50 µm. Every sclereid cell is connected to approximately 10 to 12 neighbouring cells via their outer cell wall layers. The locally existing inner sclereid layer (L4) consists of about two to eight cell layers of ellipsoidal, dumbbell- or kidney-shaped sclereids having the same size and structure as the sclereids in the outer sclereid layer (L2) ( fig. 8c).

Guendouz, M. and Boukhelkhal, D., 2017. Recycling of rubber waste in sand concrete. Journal of Building Materials and Structures, 4(2), p.42.Bitter almonds come from a variety of the almond tree native to the Middle East and Central Asia. Bitter almonds are similar in size and shape to sweet almonds, typically small and oval. As the name suggests, bitter almonds have a strong, intense bitter flavor and a distinct almond aroma. Soil Sample The soil used for the study was sourced from a borrow pit located 3.4km off Nakawuka - Mayo Road in Nakawuka Town, coordinates E437194 N22051 (WGS84), Wakiso District, Uganda. The sampled soil was air-dried for 2 weeks and then sieved through a 4.75mm sieve. According to the AASHTO designation, the soil sample was classified as A-2-7 (clayey gravel with sand). It had a liquid limit of 42.9%, plastic index of 18.6%, linear shrinkage of 9.0%, Maximum dry density of 1.875g/cm 3 and California bearing ratio of 7.3%. as shown in Table 1 below. Table 1. Properties of Soil Sample Baru nuts are native to the cerrado savanna region of Brazil, particularly in the states of Goiás, Tocantins, and Minas Gerais. Baru nuts are similar in size to almonds, measuring around 2 centimeters in length. Fritz almonds are a variety of almonds that originated in California (the largest producers of almonds worldwide). Fritz almonds are medium-sized almonds, similar in size to other common almond varieties. They have a sweet, nutty flavor that is characteristic of almonds in general.
