She reluctantly decides to get help from her husband’s ex-wife, the one he cheated on with her. As the story unravels, Natasha comes to learn her husband’s true motives, and what this will mean for their daughter. If you’ve yet to read the book and are eager to find out what happens, here’s what you need to know about The Ex-Wife book ending. Hauntingly beautiful, this is a story of love and redemption, family ties, the dark secrets and the lengths we’ll go to protect the ones we love. On the negative side, Natasha is a painfully annoying woman. There seems to be a trend lately (which I deplore) to construct female characters who are helpless doormats, and Natasha is a prime example. In fact Natasha is so fatuous that she strains credulity to the breaking point (IMO).But “Ex-Wife,” which is now being reissued (by McNally Editions) for the first time in more than thirty years, wasn’t the racy, frothy endorsement of cosmopolitan white women’s liberation that readers were primed to expect. As Marsha Gordon argues in her engaging new biography, “ Becoming the Ex-Wife: The Unconventional Life and Forgotten Writings of Ursula Parrott” (University of California Press), the novel “offers a strong case for the protections of marriage and the dangers of being an unattached woman.” In Parrott’s view, women’s drive for equality in the post-Victorian age had “made their lives harder,” Gordon writes, “and her stories dramatized the consequences of this unwanted bequest.” Or, as Parrott once told an interviewer, “I am not a feminist. In fact, I resent the feminists—they are the ones who started all this.” And most extraordinarily, and perhaps symbolically, she helps a disfigured romantic rival by commissioning decorative masks from another, artistic friend. “If a woman with half a face could glow, Beatrice glowed when she tried them on,” Parrott writes. Les deux auteures emportent le lecteur dans un thriller-labyrinthe dans lequel on remonte le temps. My life was perfect until she came along. Norah. Younger, prettier, and about to marry my own ex-husband, they are a walking cliche. I hate her. I hate them both. she's stolen everything from me - my husband, my life, my home - but I refuse to let her take Cassie, my beautiful daughter. Now I've discovered that Nora plans to have a baby of her own and that causes me no end of problems. She could destroy everything and reveal my deepest, darkest secrets.

She’s taken everything from me – my husband, my life, my home - but I refuse to allow her to take Cassie, my beautiful daughter. That's a step too far. Lost in thought, Alice Hargraves, 45, watched as the young police officer opened the cell door for her to go to court for a murder she did not commit. But, despite a FAST start, (I thought it might be a 5 Star read) the book started to drag in Part Two (about the 60% point), and I was wanting to skim ahead and be done. 😴 The book opens with Alice on trial for the murder of her ex-husband’s fiancée & her daughter’s boyfriend. In court, her air is one of acceptance & it appears that the only unknown is how long the prison sentence will be. We are then thrown to six months previously & shown the torturous route to present day. Everyone has their own secrets and problems that they deal with that nobody else even knows about. The characters in this book were a true example of that.

Once I started I couldn't even try to stop ... you need to read the whole thing cover to cover, no spoilers. Trust me it's worth it.' Bookish Geek Five Stars The characters were a mixed bunch that I could take or leave. Alice made a lot of stupid decisions that made her look half crazy, and even stalkerish, but I liked her. I wasn't a fan of Mark purely for the fact that he could so easily dump his wife of fifteen years for a younger woman. And Norah, I didn't much like her for the same reason. Scott was a creep that just slithered around for opportunity - I didn't trust him one bit. And Felix was a little too good to be true.

Kudos to Jess Ryder for writing this gripping psychological thriller that I just couldn't put down! Highly Recommend The story is told from two points of view... Natasha then and Anna now... Anna is on the run, but from who? And why? And who is Anna? Oh what a well plotted story this is! As those layers start peeling away you start finding out secret after lie after secret after lie.... leaving you to believe absolutely nobody.... and the very end, creepy! It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture Although, I did guess one of the plot twists, the others were a pleasant surprise. Not all of the characters are likable in this book which worked perfectly for the plot. As I learned more and more about the secrets, lies and motivations of some of the characters, things did begin to make more sense. The novel has interesting twists and I like the ending. So, taking into account the story's virtues and faults, I'd say it's an average psychological thriller.Alice once had it all—a perfect family complete with a rich husband, a beautiful house, and a daughter she adored. Then came Norah… Natasha is struggling to make it as a barista in the city. Living on a tight budget, she cycles to work daily until one fateful day dramatically changes her life for the better - or so she thought. Norah’s brother Felix employs Cassie ( Mark & alice’s daughter) and slowly learns about her boyfriend Scott. The chapters are given to Anna, Natasha and Jennifer. At the beginning I was trying to keep up, but once my brain got into gear I was well away. Everything started to fall into place. Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley, and Jess Ryder for an advanced reader copy of The Ex-Wife!I hope to read more of Ryder's books in the future!
