About this deal

This also really comes in handy at soundcheck - you can leave the stage and continue to play, so you can hear the front of house sound. A useful thing to note is that when storing the wireless system for long periods, it’s best not to connect the transmitter and receiver. I hope there will be a new version where you can leave it docked all the time as that would make it absolutely perfect. If you play a guitar or bass with standard passive pickups (the most common pickup type), the WL-20 model is probably your best choice.

Boss says that you’ll get 10 hours playtime out of it, and whilst we’ve not tested the full 10 hours out, we gave it a good play through for a few hours and it remained green the whole time. When the system will be out of use for a lengthy period, we recommend detaching the connections and turning off the power. You can use any of the three (the WL-20, WL-20L, or WL-50), but we recommend the WL-50, which lets you switch the CABLE TONE feature.

Created by Roland V-Drums specialist Simon Ayton, these patches were designed using the internal factory sounds and many of the techniques covered in the TD-50 guide. This makes it the best choice for instruments where cable capacitance has little or no effect on the tone, such as an acoustic/electric guitar with an onboard preamp, a guitar or bass with active pickups, or a line-level device like a keytar or Roland’s Aerophone digital wind instrument.

It's super cool that the receiver can also run off a 9v, had a few times where the pedal power was unplugged mid performance and it just seamlessly switched to battery power. And to go one step further, they all feature automatic frequency sensing to find the best frequency to operate on in any given room. Here you can see which frequencies are supported by this wireless system and the countries in which these frequencies are allowed in the future for wireless applications. Once again, it’s easy to pair – just dock the transmitter into the receiver and wait until the yellow light stops flashing.

You can also use a ‘short cable’, or have it switched off (ideal for active pickups and acoustics) - you can hear it, but the difference in sound isn’t massive. However, this feature also means that when it’s plugged into the receiver and the receiver isn’t powered on (and therefore isn’t charging it), they’re put into standby mode which does very slowly drain the battery. The WL-50 offers two cable emulations that mimic the sound of guitar cables with jaw-dropping accuracy. And with the ability to roam and interact with other musicians, your live shows will be more dynamic and entertaining than ever. When the internal temperature falls, the BATTERY indicator changes to lighting up steadily in orange, and charging resumes. The easiest introduction to the world of wireless systems, WL-20 consists of a bug style transmitter and corresponding receiver, with a nominal operating range of 15m. When using the WL-20L with a passive-pickup guitar, the sound tends to be somewhat brighter than the sound when using a guitar cable.

Turn on the power to the receiver, insert the transmitter, and carry out the Auto Wireless Connection procedure. This effect rolls off the treble very slightly, giving you the warm tone you’re used to hearing with a normal cable. When using the WL-20 with an active-pickup guitar or preamp-equipped acoustic-electric guitar, the sound tends to be somewhat warmer and softer than the sound when using a guitar cable. The system also features cable tone simulation, reproducing the natural effect of a 10-foot/3-meter guitar cable.By using an optional PCS-20A daisy-chain cable, you’re able to power a number of BOSS compact pedals at the same time. However, in a Jazzmaster, and no doubt some other guitars, you do notice it a little more than if you were using a regular cable.
