About this deal

Our range of MeacoCool air conditioners is perfect for people who want to maintain a comfortable temperature at home or in the office. Compact, portable, quiet, and easy to use, these are superior-quality, energy-efficient air conditioners. With rated maximum noise levels of 65dB in high mode and 53dB in low fan mode, the MC 7000 is noticeably louder than your average tower fan (we measured the noise levels at 62dB and 56dB respectively). There’s also a slight buzzing that accompanies the unit while it cools, too, so it isn’t the ideal choice to run overnight in a bedroom. Noise-wise, I found the Meaco Portable Air Conditioner slightly louder than the Russell Hobbs one, but only marginally so, and a little extra noise kind of comes as part of the deal if you're running an air con unit, and is well offset by the relief of that icy air during a heatwave! Verdict It's also a very affordable option compared to other models. It's not the most powerful option out there in terms of BTU, but Meaco offers plenty of alternative models, ranging from this the smallest 7000BTU through to a 14000BTU model. All Meaco products come with a two-year parts and labour warranty, as well as the option of extending the warranty to a total of five years.

Design-wise, the MeacoCool MC Series 7000BTU Portable Air Conditioner looks pretty good when assembled, although it does have a bit more going on visually than other models we tested and I wouldn't say style was one of the key elements of its design MeacoCool 10,000BTU portable air conditioner for use in the home or the office to provide personal cooling in rooms of around 28m². The reverse Heat Pump allows you to use this unit for heating as well making it useful all year round.

The MeacoCool comes with two types of window kits: the standard window kit and the flexible window kit. The standard window kit is suitable for sash windows, whereas the flexible window kit is suitable for all types of windows. The use of a window kit prevents warm air from outside entering the room, making the cooling more efficient. Alas, the weather hasn’t been particularly warm during the test period so I can’t give more accurate details than this yet, but it’s a good sign that the unit managed to keep rooms cool even without the installation of a window kit.

We know you’re looking for an air conditioning unit that cools reliably without making your room freezing and resulting in a too-cold-too-hot scenario that you can’t control. That’s why we’ve added some great features to our air conditioning series. The fact that one of the drainage hose outlets was positioned midway down the rear of the unit made it much easier to drain than alternative models I've tested in which the outlet is much lower down. I put the Dry Mode to use on a very muggy rainy day and noticed an almost immediate improvement in the moisture levels in the room.

A cost-effective air conditioner that works brilliantly – but it’s a little on the noisy side

The neatest but most expensive option is to have a hole punched through the room’s wall and a good sealing cap fitted to close the gap when you’re not using any air-con. But there is another way, though unfortunately it only applies to houses fitted with a working fireplace chimney. You see, the humble chimney was designed to port hot smoke out of the house, and it works brilliantly with air conditioners, too.

As mentioned, this unit is also very lightweight compared to most portable air con units we've tested. The flipside of that is that the build quality does feels slightly flimsier than some alternative units I've tested. The trouble is that if you don’t expel the hot air, the machine’s efficiency will be cancelled out and it will struggle to lower the temperature in the room. It will also have to work harder for longer and therefore use more energy which will be more easily understood when you receive your electricity bill. Noise-wise, we found the Meaco Portable Air Conditioner slightly louder than the more powerful (and more expensive) AEG Comfort 6000 Portable Air Conditioner and Russell Hobbs RHPAC11001 Portable Air Conditioner, but only marginally so, and it could well be worth putting up with a little more volume in return for the cheaper investment. The 10000 CH has five modes: cool, fan, dry, heat and sleep. We’ve added a timer so that you can get your room to the right temperature before you need to use it – perfect for bedrooms and offices, but also great for making sure your reception rooms or conservatory is the right temperature before you get home after a long day. Unlike most cooling units this model can be moved alone if you live by yourself, is easy to reposition thanks to its castor wheels, and is a great slimline option to stow away in the car and take to the caravan or a holiday let to keep cool in the summer heat. Our range has an Energy Rating of A, meaning you can run them without worrying about the effect on your bills, and we have also reduced the running noise, giving you a quieter air conditioning unit to see you through the warmer months. The MeacoCool MC Series 8000 is designed to keep your room cool and comfortable. By removing hot and humid air, it reduces relative humidity which helps to keep the environment comfortable – whether it is your home gym, your conservatory, or even your offices. In fact, this unit is ideal for rooms from 16-26m². Also in the box is a short pipe for draining moisture from the water collection tank and a small remote control. The latter allows you to turn the unit on and off, adjust the fan speed and temperature, switch modes and set the on/off timer. These controls are mirrored on the panel at the front of the air conditioner, along with a simple LED screen that indicates the target temperature. Another review says: ‘Does the job, it is very loud. All sleep mode does is switch the brightness of the display down. It’s a bit heavy so not ideal for going up and down stairs but has wheels to be able to move around.’
