About this deal
Studies show that when our homes drop in temperature, we tend to turn up the thermostat, making the boiler work harder, costing us more in energy bills. Not sure if radiator auto bleed vents ate different but I thought that they worked different to previously described. All masks an issue that could be rotting out your rads and sludging up your system which mounts up to a protencially bigger bill. They are not a substitute for bleeding a system manually when it is first filled during commissioning, nor for remedial bleeding if the system becomes choked with trapped air.
The bleed valves on your radiator allow you to release built-up air to help make your heating more efficient. By having air in your system, your heating system has to work much harder to achieve the desired temperature, resulting in higher energy consumption and increased bills. The innovative Hygroseal™ technology (patent pending) with its long, leak-free life, provides a cost-effective solution to automatic radiator de-aeration.
Air may be drawn in if there is a small leak, or dissolved air in make-up water may come out of solution, but this generally indicates a system leak if new water is needing to be added.
These operate by the varying viscosity of liquids and gases and are designed for situations, such as fire truck hoses, where there is a large flow and a large quantity of air to be vented rapidly. At the other end there will be either a wheelhead valve which can be turned off by hand or a thermostatic valve which should be turned to zero. But I wouldn't see how this method would work on horizontal plane as it would be in a radiator situation. Installing anti vacuum valves to eliminate sucking in air means it would have to be opened for draining. Where possible replace the plug which the little square vent pin fits into rather than the pin itself. Well, if you have ever felt that your radiator is cold at the top and hot at the bottom, it is a clear sign that there is air trapped inside.
