The “W Speed Engine” in some Kuru Toga mechanical pencils rotates twice as fast as standard Kuru Toga engine: 20 strokes per rotation versus 40 strokes for the standard models. The standard Kuru Toga is ideal for writing complex characters with many strokes because of its higher stroke count per rotation. Simpler scripts such as Roman characters use fewer and longer strokes. The updated engine of the Pipe Slide is ideal for such scripts because it rotates the lead faster without requiring you to lift your pencil as often. With this updated mechanism, simpler scripts remain crisp and uniform. In addition, with fewer strokes per rotation, the lead is sharpened half as much as the standard model. This is more efficient for softer leads such as 2B, which require less sharpening to maintain a narrow line. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! It features a clear grip section where you can clearly see the mechanism at work while you write. The grip also has shallow grooves that allow you to hold the pencil firmly. It's been a while since we gave the Kuru Toga some love around here, but that's going to change with the Roulette. This pencil has been around for quite some time, but it can be easy to overlook given the sheer number of mechanical pencil options that exist today. What sets the Roulette apart from the regular Kuru Toga, you ask? Knurling. For draftsmen, architects, or designers searching for the best mechanical pencils, there are numerous options on the market. Staedtler – Silver Series: A pencil with the name “ Silver Series” (and a price point of over ten dollars) invites some big expectations, and for the most part the Staetdler didn’t disappoint. It’s available with an extra-sharp 0.3mm size and writes precisely and smoothly. Like the rOtring, this is a technical pencil well-known among architects, planners, and designers. Our testers’ biggest complaint with this pencil was the grip; most found it somewhat uncomfortable. If you’re not writing longform content though, this pencil might still be for you. Grip: A pencil grip won’t necessarily make your pencil more comfortable to use, and some people actually find them cumbersome. But if you want a pencil with a big, squishy grip, we know the perfect one for you. Surprisingly, our testers found the grips on some of the higher-end mechanical pencils more uncomfortable — perhaps because they’re designed to keep your grasp firmly in place, but not cushion your hand.Open the clutch, either by pushing down the pencil button. Alternatively this might require pushing the pencil down (pushing the top button) while pushing a small collar down Alvin – Draft-Matic: The Alvin, another “luxury” pencil at over ten dollars for one, disappointed us. It’s sleek and cool looking, but it’s uncomfortable to hold, it’s too hard to change the lead and it made our writing uneven and scratchy. The bottom line This mechanical pencil is available in multiple tip sizes, including 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm. It means that it can be used for a wide range of purposes, including sketching, writing, doodling, drawing, drafting, and more. The Zebra Delguard mechanical pencil has a unique design in which its internal parts help keep the lead protected at all times. Since this prevents the lead from breaking inside the pencil, the chances of small lead pieces lying within the pencil are minimized.
Unscrew the front tip of the pencil and make sure no small pieces of lead are jammed inside. This might seem obvious but it’s a logical first step. Give it a shake and make sure you can see through the hole the lead goes through. If you’re pencil doesn’t include a cleaning rod, you can buy an eraser kit that includes one. Just makes sure that the rod is the right size for your pencil — that is, not bigger than the diameter of your lead. Smaller, say 0.3 mm for a 0.5 mm pencil, is OK though! The Kuru Toga KS has a simplified design that won’t distract you in the middle of your notes. The rubber grip is comfortable to hold, and the revamped rotation mechanism minimizes movement of the pencil’s lead pipe. Pentel – GraphGear 500: We loved the GraphGear 1000, but its little brother didn’t make the same impression. We found the 500 to be dull and fragile, with lead that breaks too easily and a lead changing process that’s too time-consuming. This one isn’t worth paying over five dollars for.
