About this deal

To test the Hisense A6G we used Portrait Displays Calman colour calibration software. Hisense (50A6G) LED review: Gaming Despite being a mid-range TV, Hisense promises best-in-class overall video and audio from the U7HQ. This model supports all HDR formats and boasts a wide colour range. There’s also a game mode for PC and console users. As a big-screen fitting for sports and movies, it also starts at a slightly cheaper asking price than the U7QF model it replaces. But does the more affordable price suggest the A7G is a downgrade on what came before? Design Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits)

Quantum Dot: Over a billion true-to-life colours for smoother gradients and vivid reds, greens and blues

Compared to the U7QF, the A7G is a downgrade in features. Where the U7Q had Full Array local dimming the A7G makes do without. It’s not a full house for HDR formats either, with the Hisense able to decode HDR10+ but not officially certified for it. AI - PQ Elevate existing HD to the next level. Enhance all of your favourite sports, TV shows and movies to super clear, near-4K quality effortlessly. Watch the action unfold seamlessly with Smooth Motion: reducing blur and screen lag for clearer, more fluid scenesLet’s start with what’s good. The bezel is discreet enough to not intrude on the TV viewing experience, and the depth of the set is just 78mm without the stand, making it appreciatively slim in appearance. Use Alexa via the Remote NOW app to control your TV with your voice, search across the VIDAA U platform or use any Alexa skills. HDR support is rather impressive for a more affordable TV (all the main formats are listed) and there’s HDMI 2.1 support with eARC, ALLM and VRR available across the three HDMI inputs (eARC on HDMI 2). With SDR content it fires on more cylinders. As is Hisense’s trademark, images are delivered with a strong sense of colour – primary colours have the look of children’s colouring book in how punchy they look. Complexions are warmly expressed (perhaps overcooked in some places) but it makes for an attention-grabbing image. Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM): Allows for smooth, lag-free and uninterrupted viewing and interactivity

Hisense TV 2022 U8HQ With 4x more pixels than traditional Full HD, Hisense's 4K UHD resolution delivers breath taking picture quality and pin-sharp clarity. While the limited brightness and gamut coverage is to be expected at this price point, the poor HDR10 tone-mapping disappoints, marring an otherwise excellent picture performance for a budget TV. Get closer to reality with over a billion true-to-life colors. Experience a wider palette of color up to 100% (typical value) under the DCI-P3 standard ensures smoother gradients whilst reds, greens and blues appear more vivid and realistic.

Specifications

While this isn’t surprising for a budget TV, it doesn’t necessarily mean the HDR performance will be bad – as long as the tone-mapping is good. When it comes to HDR10 content, the A6G mapped the colours quite well but was clearly clipping the highlights. This is fairly common with 4,000 and 10,000 nits content, but the A6G was also clipping images graded at 1,000 nits. There are three HDMI 2.0 inputs with support for 4K at 60Hz, HDR, ALLM, HDCP 2.2, and CEC. One of the HDMI inputs also supports eARC. Contrary to what is stated in Hisense’s marketing, this TV doesn’t support HDMI 2.1, VRR or HDR10+. Colours looked accurate and natural, whether you’re watching nature documentaries or dramas. Although admittedly, the HDR brightness isn’t as bright as you’d get elsewhere so the contrast could be better. You'll only really see the impact of this when you're watching particularly dark movies or using it on a sunny day. There’s no adaptive brightness to automatically adjust the display settings according to the lighting conditions in the room. As such, you’ll get the best viewing experience from it on a dreary day or in the evening.
