The first in a two-volume collection of liturgies, prayers and meditations from the Northumbria Community, inspired by ancient Celtic Christianity, but reaching out to bring inspiration and comfort to all today who seek to be still and to find spiritual truth. Its spirituality and the rhythm of its Celtic Daily Prayer have been a significant influence on many European Baptists, particularly through the Community’s annual visits at the International Baptist Theological Seminary (IBTS) when it was based in Prague, and subsequently in the devotional life of the IBTS Centre in Amsterdam.

Although some of the sections are liturgical in nature, this collection of prayers, devotionals, and historical bits( from Celtic evangelical 'saints') is full of encouragement. We are almost done our 31 day prayer challenge, and I’ve been waiting to introduce you to Celtic Daily Prayer. The main part of the book consists of thoughts, prayers and readings for the morning and the evening of every day of the year, as well as liturgies for both normal and special occasions. Also available are Braille, Large Print (18 pt) and Giant Print (24pt) versions of the words of the Office and a separate booklet with the words of the Meditations from Celtic Daily Prayer Book 2. We have used it as a family around the table, as a church for weekend retreats, as well as for personal prayer times.If you are simply reading aloud from the books in a public context, such as a Church service, then no permission is needed unless a recording is being taken that will be broadcast or sold. I had hoped for it sooner as I was on sabbatical 2018/19 and had to leave the physical copy at home. Most of the selected scriptures are short and time should be allowed after each reading for its meaning to filter down from the head to the heart, and to seek the significance of each for that day. This book combines our earlier Celtic Daily Prayer and Celtic Night Prayer books, and adds to them fresh material born out of the further development of the Northumbria Community’s ways of worship in the intervening years since these books were published. Topics include reaching adulthood/mid-life/old-age; renewal of a marriage; the summer solstice; living with pain; blessing a garden; Christmas preparation; after an argument; scattering ashes; studying; peace; the 'father wound'; loyalty and sleep, among many, many others.If you wish to use part, or all, of our Daily Office (Morning, Midday or Evening Prayer) in public worship for a one-off event, you may reproduce the words in a service sheet, or in a PowerPoint presentation, providing they are not being sold.
