About this deal

I then saw it had first been published in 2008 under a different name but Rina’s sections seemed old-fashioned and almost like a separate gentle short story woven into another far harsher modern one.

These characters are great, so down to earth and normal and I think that is why it works as you can relate to a lot of it, well apart from the murders, lol. Can Pearl possibly solve the mystery in time to make 25th December an unforgettable day – or will the murderer contrive to ensure her goose is well and truly cooked before then?Rina’s far more active and involved than Marple was, and for all her storming into the police station at the beginning of this book, I see Rina as kinder than the Victorian-minded Marple. I really enjoyed their interactions and I think their relationship added another dimention to the story.

I have one more of this author’s books to read in The Whitstable Pearl Mystery series so lets hope another one is written soon. Melanie Hall was last seen outside the former Cadillacs nightclub in Walcot Street, Bath in the early hours of June 9 1996. After solving her first case as a private investigator on summer, she has been slowly building her business while still managing her restaurant.Overall, I did enjoy the story, cared for the characters and look forward to reading more by Jane Adams. The story seemed modern yet there were a few details, such as the boarding house residents, using a landline and the names of some of the characters, that made me query when exactly it was set. However, this has never been true - our county has seen some truly shocking crimes over the years, including a number of killings that have resonated around the country. After a trial, which saw McCormack discharged after the jury acquitted him of charges, Betty and Wall were found guilty. Charlie Broadway, 24, wounded Wilfie Isaacs Jnr, 22, before pointing the double-barrelled pump-action shotgun at his father Wilfred Isaacs Snr, 49, and shooting him dead at close range.

Rina and Mac make an interesting pair, with Rina’s forthrightness and Mac recovering from the trauma of a previous case. Lloyd Fouracre was walking home with friends along Gypsy Lane, Taunton after leaving another friend's 18th birthday party on September 25, 2005.Pearl’s curiosity is piqued but having pledged not to take on a case at her detective agency before Christmas, she reluctantly agrees that Canterbury’s DCI Mike McGuire should take over; poisoned pen cards are after all a matter for the police. A few doors down, harmless old Mrs Freer is bludgeoned to death, and Rina can’t help but be drawn into the mystery. I found this book very enjoyable and hard to put down once I started to read it (and then forgot to do a review for it Sorry) Murder on Sea had lots of great twists and turns throughout and the killer took me by surprise. Official Synopsis: (Originally published as “A Reason to Kill”) Meet Rina Martin, a retired actress with a taste for tea, gardening and crime solving. Detective Constable Karen Thomas, sensed something wasn't right when she met Tabak in Holland to get a statement.
