About this deal

Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient is a hulking beast that cashes in on the total power of your creatures in combat. I could see adding it into the 99 of Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant; Kardur, Doomscourge; and Thantis, the Warweaver too. Get a traditional foil Klauth on your side with Draconic Rage and you’ll also find a nonfoil Wulfgar of Icewind Dale—famous friend of Drizzt Do’Urden and wielder of the magical warhammer, Aegis-fang.

Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient rewards the deck heavily for assembling a large attack, putting potentially dozens of mana into the pool for a flurry of damage-dealing spells in the second main phase. Then, you could prevent all the damage except 1 by assigning it directly to the protected creature but trampling over the last point, and even then you have a one in twelve chance of whiffing. Vrondiss brings back the enrage mechanic first seen on Ixalan, by stating on the card that whenever damage is dealt to them, they create a big dragon spirit token – the downside of course is that the dragon spirit sacrifices itself when it, in turn, does damage to anything else. However, it plays into the rolling dice mechanic of Vrondiss by stating that you roll a number of d6 equal to the value of X in the casting cost and this multi-headed monstrosity gets +1/+1 counters equal to the total of those rolls! Assemble a party, choose your commander, and try out Magic: The Gathering’s most popular format with a ready-to-play deck. Not only do you become the monarch when this card ETBs, but if you can stay that way you get to make a 5/5 dragon at the beginning of your upkeep for as long as you wear the crown. For seven mana, you get a 7/7 with flying that allows you to create Treasure tokens equal to the combat damage your Creatures do to a player. They’re all pretty interesting, even if they don’t all feel like they’re on the same power level, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look at upgrading them a bit.

The deck has 10 cards that can roll dice, but some of them are expensive, difficult to time correctly, or don’t work well with Vrondiss.Nobody wants to be the person who takes one for the team, especially considering it's not as infuriating to fight against as Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. That's Rishkar's Expertise or Rampaging Baloths territory, both of which are far more impactful than Wild Endeavor. On the opposite end of the power spectrum come the deck’s worst cards; the cards to deploy last or sometimes not bother deploying at all. While the relic makes you one mana per turn with the option to take a turn off for a two-mana turn later, Component Pouch forces you to use up both mana, but it'll occur more often thanks to the two-counter coin flip.
