I can’t quite explain it, but bottom line, I’m not particularly surprised that Un Jardin Sur Le Nil didn’t bowl you over. Tuberose is king throughout, present from the very beginning, but bolstered nicely by the other notes. White flowers are the main stars in this iconic perfume, accompanied by a creaminess and pink fruity notes.

Unusually, I compared an " Eau de Toilette" (old transparent bottle) with an " Eau de Parfum" (new black bottle) and the first big surprise is that there are not so many differences in longevity and sillage. Subtle differences between old and new are in the supporting notes (Jasmine, Violet, Bergamot, Musk.This is not a scent to apply with reckless abandon if you’re going to be going anywhere close to masses of other human beings.

The question is: will you find it to be the white empress that seduces you, or the black widow that kills you? What I would absolutely recommend you trying is: Fracas, Tolu by Ormonde Jayne, the Elixir de Merveilles by Hermes, and Alahine by Teo Cabanel (you can read the review I did for it. BTW, for orange blossoms, you will probably want to try Serge Lutens’ Fleurs d’Orangeur or something. Both fragrances are still, until this very day iconic, cult fragrances and the favorite fragrances of many memorable woman.

Hi, I added your review in a comparison between two of the most recent version of this extraordinary scent.

I literally feel like I’m being smothered to death by a powder puff of screeching geriatric florals. All I smell is the sweetness of overripe flowers on the verge of decay with a little coumarin for added measure. I couldn't imagine a woman younger than 25 wearing this, not that I think it smells old lady like Chanel N°5, for instance. At the first phase I feel the green notes and the orange blossom, tuberose is very mellow, but it turns more creamy and noticeable during the hours.I think if you are going to pull it off, it needs to be sprayed as the finishing touch to a full on ‘lewk’.
