We certainly give kudos to CamelBak for trying to do something different, but we’re not sure that the Fusion’s zipper has any merit over a more secure slider—and it seems to have a lot more potential to fail over time. There are two main styles of hydration reservoirs—those that feature a top opening that seals with a slider (or in the case of the CamelBak Fusion, a zip), and those with a twist-cap closure (generally on the front, although the Platypus Hoser’s is at the base). The product itself was as described and worked fine but incredibly hard to dry out, therfore not good for using a second time as bacteria can live in the damp interior. We haven’t spent enough time with our reservoir yet to know, but we’re also guessing it’ll need to be consistently maintained with lubricant, too. In other words, the Hoser is a fairly versatile piece for those who like to geek out on hydration and filtration setups, and as the lightest design here it will have some appeal for ounce-counters.
