About this deal

Finally, there’s a thread in this novel that strongly suggests a 14th book is on the way – here’s hoping it won’t take four years to materialise! If you’re expecting a crime Harry Hole type novel then think again as one of my favourite authors takes us in a different direction here. Liz Foley, publishing director, and Katie Ellis-Brown, deputy publishing for crime, thriller and crossover fiction, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Niclas Salomonsson at the Salomonsson Agency. Harry agrees, with the stipulation that - if he's successful - Harry will be paid almost a million dollars.

In Oslo, two girls have disappeared and been found murdered and one of the suspects is a well-known real estate magnate. Exploring all the leads, Harry is able to make some headway, but realises that this is one serial killer with their own impetus for action. Two young women are missing, their only connection being they attended the same party, hosted by a notorious real-estate magnate. We start this particular episode with Harry far from home trying to get away from his life after Rakel's murder.Via a varied cast, Nesbo passes comment on the big and little changes in Norwegian society, vintage rock music, Oslo neighbourhoods and the city’s modern architecture.

I loved reading my grandmother’s collection of Agatha Christie novels with their wonderfully whimsical depiction of Hercule Poirot. It’s fantastic to be back in the company of Norwegian detective Harry Hole, who is drowning his sorrows yet again after two people very close to him perished in the 2019 novel, Knife. If he hasn't, I would be surprised, because this does mirror some of the early Goosebumps tone quite a bit in the first section. The seventh in the Hole series, The Snowman, was adapted into a Hollywood film starring Michael Fassbender as Harry, alongside Silo star Rebecca Ferguson and Top Gun ace Val Kilmer.I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor in exchange for an honest review. There are a number of suspects, people of dubious character and varying degree of enthusiasm and, dare I say, obsession, that we meet over the course of the book, the author doing a grand job of deflecting suspicion from the obvious and making out attention flit from one to the other at a great pace of knots. As the school bully, Richard is a somewhat unlikeable character, so I struggled to sympathize with him. The dark nature of Scandinavian crime thrillers is not lost on the reader, nor is the seamlessness of the translation. When the body of one of them is found with fresh stitches along her hairline the hunt is on to find a murderer with very particular tastes. Killing Moon is the thirteenth and latest book in Nesbo's Norwegian crime thriller series, starring the erstwhile Harry Hole. But for my first outing with Harry Hole, I really enjoyed it and will definitely be looking to read the rest of the series. However, Richard swears that the telephone booth out at the edge of the woods sucked Tom into the receiver (it’s true). He wrote his first Harry Hole novel, The Bat, in Australia while taking a break from work and this was published in Norway in 1997.
