About this deal

What shouldn’t surprise anyone who is familiar with Pretzel Games is that the components are excellent.

Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process. The instruction deck is shuffled and the Boss Rita card is inserted about a quarter of the way down into the deck. But, you also have to impress Rita, the boss, with your productivity if you want to be made Employee of the Month.

Other times you’ll be asked to lay a girder across a hot man’s ample shoulders, or balance it atop only one other girder.

You’re allowed to move other pieces as you place your own, but only if you move them with the piece you’re trying to place. That concept works so well, thanks in large part to the theme, highlighted by the game’s magnificent table presence. Almost all of the reviews on Board Game Quest are from review copies of a game provided by the publisher. The real fun comes when you stop being conservative and start trying to outdo others by placing workers, supports, and beams in the most ridiculous places possible, rather than just trying to complete your turn.

Their arms have little indents in them just to make balancing beams and bricks that little bit harder. If you already have a dexterity game you really like and you don’t play it that often, Men at Work might not have enough there to completely change your stance on the genre.

First off, since the game is just so entertaining to watch, even after being eliminated you can still get some enjoyment out of watching other players cause accidents or succeed in their ambitious plays. At some point in the first half of the game the Site Manager will appear in the draw pile and from that point on, everyone needs to be aiming to place the highest part of the construction to win themselves an Employee of the Month rosette. Both options have their appeal, pitting caution and risk against each other, and either can ultimately lead to victory. This is where the second consequence of dropping something comes in, and it’s one of the best things about Men at Work. Although this is fantastic for reaching a nerve-racking climax, it’s not conducive to interesting decision-making.
