A great sci-fi follow-up to Alastair's first MG, 'Orion Lost' (though this is not a sequel to that), so safe to say my expectations were high. I therefore think that this kind of character would fit much better into the scenario of a more stable society in which people have the time and resources to devote thought to existential matters.

With a diverse cast of complex characters, an exhilarating plot and a real sense of peril, Adam-2 is a breathtaking science fiction thriller. This subfamily contains other snake venom metalloproteinases, as well as membrane-anchored metalloproteases belonging to the ADAM family. The spiral behaviour is astounding – spiral stability can be a problem with low aspect-ratio beginner wings, but we have tested the paraglider extensively, with different inclinations and sink rates, and never, ever has it stayed in a spiral, once! I was very impressed with the ending of the book - I thought a lot of the themes had great real world parallels and the needless violence that can stem from conflict based on misunderstanding and the greed of a very powerful few. The inclusion of a non-binary character in a lead role was superbly written to my mind and fit in beautifully with the underlying theme of ‘what it is to be a person, or to be human’.We often get requests for smaller gliders for youngsters and lighter pilots, and the XS is certified from just 50kg all up. We also have Linden, a character who has quite a lot of anger and resentment towards the robots but must try and work together with Adam and set aside differences. Peaceable, calm Adam has power to swing the fight one way or another, but which side deserves his support? An exciting, action packed dystopian story about a thinking robot who emerges after 200 years to find that other, less intelligent robots have taken over the city. I was emotionally invested in these characters, I really want to visit Edinburgh now and as always, the overall message of empathy and understanding had me close to tears!

There is a constant battle with no room to move and no line to be drawn between the two battling kinds. The story is set 200+ years in the future in a world where humans and robots with advanced intelligence are at war. Lonny Quicke is a lifeling and has the power to prevent death – but he must keep this gift a secret at all costs. The story is full of manipulation and betrayal, made all the more horrific when seen through Adam’s initially uncomprehending eyes.
