Description

He has published more than a dozen military action-adventure novels, including the six-book series Force Recon. If you're one of those people, you'll find the included 3-stage step-by-step program invaluable at getting you on par with one of the strongest but trickiest finger positions.

The result is a starting point, but also endless possibilities for how you might structure your training to meet your goals. Alongside simple messages like this scattered throughout the book are regular references to Olympic climber Shauna Coxsey, although once you realise that she is married to the author, it seems very logical to include UK climbing’s wonderful poster girl. The book is everything a climber needs to start designing training programs and making the most of their climbing. From finger strength and endurance training through injury prevention to skin conditioning and tactics, Ned accurately lays out the generally accepted state-of-the-art climbing training knowledge. However, climbing science is not only catching up with what climbers have known for decades, but it's rapidly overtaking common training knowledge.

They are ideal for powerful board climbing or campussing, providing a good handful of hold which really engages the thumb for maximum squeeze training. From the foreward, Feehally admits that he will leave the citations out of this book and recommends your following up with additional reading if interested. In the remaining sections, Ned also clearly explains when training one-armed is helpful and why sometimes it's not such a great idea. As such, Feehally has eased the ingestion of dense training material into a small number of words written in a comfortable tone.

Great for forcing you to climb with good tension as its particularly hard to hold a swing on this hold. Ned has done a great job distilling the enormous amount of fingerboarding and training information on the internet into one book. The book is structured such that the reader can scan at first, catching up on the summary sections and getting the salient points and taking much from the book just at that but, as is mentioned regarding training itself, the real gains will come from putting the effort in. The 200 page training guide carries 18 chapters and includes interviews with some of the world’s best climbers.

Beastmaking by Ned Feehally is a modern training book for "normal" climbers, helping to lead the way into the world of climbing training without being over-faced by over-technical jargon and impossible to keep to regimes for the average person. Instead, keep your eyes on the bigger picture - all this hard training will surely pay off in the long run. My hangboard has sat idle since I purchased it but this book has inspired me to start hang boarding again.

It mostly focusses on training more at the power end of the spectrum, though does contain a section on endurance training. I’ve always relied on the old adage (that is indeed quoted and confirmed) that climbing is the best training for climbing. In this video Ned gives some insight into the world of training, some references to his new book, plus a bit of hard bouldering for good measure.

Ho apprezzato molto il fatto che l'autore non sponsorizzi il Bestmaker, che lui produce, ma propone esercizi da poter eseguire su qualsiasi pannello o trave. The layout, writing style and quality of the book overall make a fairly mundane subject interesting to read about.

Here in Spain I couldn't find the Beastmaker but found an equivalent version which I have been using. Beastmaking is written by Ned Feehally one of the world’s top climbers and a co-founder of the Beastmaker fingerboard. But as I was reading their answers, I kept thinking ‘Wow, actually loads of this backs up what I’ve written. He also lists the main physical factors critical for climbing; finger strength, footwork, flexibility, mobility, core strength, pulling strength, and pushing strength.
