The other characters rounding out this ensemble are Cade, Hale’s younger brother and partner in business and Kyra’s neighbor, Stevie, who is an artist. But as summer heats up, so does Penny and Kai’s “relationship,” and Penny starts to question whether she’s truly faking it with Kai, if he’s really as terrible as she always thought he was, and if the life she’s fighting so hard to get back is the one she really wants.

I loved that she took a leap of faith and moved to her mom’s childhood home in hopes to feel closer to her. Clear prompts show the leader how to focus the discussion and engage their team members to predict outcomes, clarify issues, ask questions and evaluate content. A few days back Faker did a stream where he shared books that he recommended reading which may be of interest to people in this community. Nick is a brilliant, articulate speaker who is well equipped to teach the love of God to anyone who is willing to listen.

It was a cute read, there were some things that were kind of annoying but nothing that stopped me from continuing on. It explains clearly and with perfectly chosen examples just what the distinction is between pointed pranks and lazy fabrications, and between satire and malice. Last year, I unexpectedly really enjoyed The Best Laid Plans, so I was so excited for this author’s next release. The story is about pretending to be someone else, acting like nothing is bothering you and that everything is just perfect. Scientists have fallen prey to or helped perpetrate such hoaxes as the Rabbit Woman, the Lying Stones, and the Piltdown Man, but a long time passed before skeptical scientists were convinced the platypus was not a hoax.I think it handled the serious subjects pretty well and the relationship (though somewhat stereotypical there at the beginning, what with the obligatory arguing and tension between the two leads) worked out nicely in the end. As if it can't get any more upsetting, Kyra's grandmother Florence was throwing up her own smoke screens to upset Kyra and make her question her decision to stay! The book is lined with insightful, yet simple quotes from contemporary icons and illustrations that allow the reader to better picture the scenarios McDonald portrays. I really liked the complexity of the character dynamics, and how they grew from the messy situations.
