About this deal

Did I mention that in addition to the castle (emptied of its gold by the children in book 1) the island has an exposed shipwreck and a cave? I have met people before where this book seems to suggest to them that the Five can actually be quite nasty, and I suppose to a degree that’s true. It's slightly darker than the first two books but nothing young children won't be able to cope with and enjoy.

Okay, the tutor in book 2 was actually quite charming, and had everybody except George and Tim eating out of his hand. Most of us have already done our best at answering our kids’ questions about death, I don’t see why Hollywood wants to keep reminding them! Of course all the adults as fine with unsupervised 11 year old George rowing across open sea and through said rocks with her cousins. But I use these as teaching moments - how people have learned to see, do and say things differently. However, this is no different from EVERY single Disney/Pixar movie where the protagonists’ parents die at the beginning - that bothers me much more!

Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. However, I suspect Blyton was right when she created Timothy as a dog who is able to sniff out rather suspicious individuals. This is one of Blyton’s humorous books just like “Mystery of the Missing Man” and “The Circus of Adventure” (the Gus scenes before his abduction). We started to make jokes about Famous Five “All the do is picnic and talk about how delicious their apples are. They had a fine breakfast of tongue, tinned peaches, bread and butter, golden syrup and ginger-beer.

Now, in this new series of Enid Blyton for Grown-Ups, George, Dick, Anne, Julian and Timmy confront a new challenge: what exactly is this puzzling scrape referred to as a 'strategy away day'? Kidnapping and screams in the night don't deter them however, and trickery, rebellion, and camaraderie all take centre stage.

Personally, with my experience with dogs, I have not actually encountered any that would instinctively point out a bad guy; they normally they react to strangers the same way their masters behave, or else distrust anybody they do not know. Le Club des Cinq, or the Famous Five are best when they try to escape from the rules imposed by adults and go to their paradise island, Kirrin Island, or here Kernach Island. Personally, I do sympathise with George because, even though I do love my Dad, I must admit that I experienced that from him when I was younger as well. They plan to spend time exploring Kirrin Island but their happiness is spoilt when Aunt Fanny falls ill and has to leave with Uncle Quentin to be treated in a far-off hospital. Was mich aber sehr überraschte, die fünf Kinder und Timmy gingen für eine Woche auf die Felseninsel zurück?Mr Stick is captured through a police-sanctioned gambit that puts a child (Julian) at great risk and has no reasonable chance of success. There is something to be said about books that appear as a series in the famed Bibliotheque verte/rose publishing house. This has to be one of my favourite fives as the weather described in the books makes for a perfect beachy holiday. Well it does and these play their roles in the uncovering and subsequent foiling of a kidnap involving the child of very wealthy parents. I got swayed by the review of one user here and consequently I couldn't enjoy The Famous Five book for what it is.
