About this deal

Find somebody, ANYBODY, whether it's an old lady in a park, or a foreign exchange student from a country you've never heard of.

But Stay Puft himself can’t do anything more than shove Ghostbusters backward and slime them, so play devolves into players mindlessly rolling attacks before Stay Puft can reach his goal at the top of the board. And seriously, Cryptozoic, how do you make a Ghostbusters game with no rule about crossing the streams? It didn’t take long for a follow-up, aptly named, Ghostbusters: The Board Game II, to become a reality, adding in characters from the 1989 sequel, including the Scoleri Brothers and Vigo the Carpathian, along with his undead army. When this game launched, there was a particular unit that I saw make its way into just about EVERY ARMY LIST. In this instance once you’ve closed the four gates the only way to lose the game is by letting Slimer make it to the final slime pit. This makes enemy movement hard to predict, and so keeping proton streams locked becomes a weird little dance that can be both enjoyabe, and irritating if it goes on for too long.

The miniatures came in two plastic sheets each with their own mold (which was nice) inside another slightly smaller cardboard box.I had this 80s Ghostbusters board game as a micro-George: I was able to play it again just last year when I was cat-sitting for a friend that had it in her wardrobe. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Whereas 10 years ago, most big TV or film licenses would have had the ubiquitous videogame tie-in, now it seems like board games are being seen as a viable method of marketing with the likes of Terminator Genisys, Back to the Future, Mars Attacks and, of course, Star Wars all getting the tabletop treatment.

When a game tells me that it's 1-4 players, that usually means that 1-4 players take control of each of the Ghostbusters. These are a little too samey looking for our tastes and it took a bit for Sister Superior to be able to distinguish the two - I think patterned colour or much clearer shades like red/yellow/ice blue would have been preferable. These tiles naturally alter the game itself because Ghostbusters can’t pass through things like fences, and such obstacles can also block their line of sight, too, while ghosts are free to merrily float through walls because they just don’t care about our pesky human limitations.A little like Zombicide each of these spooks is controlled by a simple AI that dictates how they move around the board and attack the Ghostbusters. Adding tension to the senario is that there’s just eight ghosts residing in the Spirit World, meaning you don’t have heaps of spare time, and the map is layed out so that you have to head up the middle and then decide which of the two gates to aim for first. What this resulted in was an agonizingly long cycle of slowly dragging him back across the board, before inevitably losing a couple of proton streams due to pure bad luck and spending a lot of time simply cleaning slime off of Ghosterbusters, and then repeating the whole process again.
