Regular Cleaning: Damp cleaning with diluted Osmo Decking Cleaner using Osmo Decking Cleaning Brush. For deeper cleaning, to remove scuff marks, stains, grease or other contaminants, we recommend the use of Osmo Decking Cleaner in conjunction with the Osmo Decking Cleaning Brush. After the weathering period, it is generally recommended to clean the surface from the extractive content. Depending on wood species, new or freshly sanded wood requires up to 12 weeks (approximate) exposure to the exterior elements before application. For quick and easy application, we recommend using the Osmo Floor Brush with the Osmo Telescopic Handle.
The wood can breathe and the moisture content is controlled by the microporous coatings, which are based on natural vegetable oils. When choosing a decking treatment, it’s important to consider factors such as the level of protection you require, the type of wood your deck is made of, and the desired finish. To assess how much oil your decking needs, apply one thin coat, allow to dry, then apply a droplet of oil in a corner.Due to their surface properties, ribbed or grooved as well as rough (sawn) wood surfaces absorb more product per square metre than smooth surfaces. The deep penetrating effect of the gel removes the greyed patina, with results showing as quick as 30 minutes! Alternatively they can be scrubbed with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (8000) (degreaser) or White Spirit to degrease the surface.
If a less intensive colour is desired, the second coat should be carried out with clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430. Avoid applying clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 as a stand alone finish as this offers limited UV protection.
In this article, we’ll answer some frequently asked questions about using decking oils, including the benefits, best options, and application process. Staining can provide more colour options than oiling, but it can be more difficult to maintain and may require more frequent refinishing.
