About this deal

A removable storage box gives the user a free arm for sewing hard to reach areas like sleeves, cuffs and trouser legs. It has a front loading bobbin, two retractable spool pins to enable twin needle work, drop feed facility for free motion sewing. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site.

The Janome 219-S is an affordable entry-level, mechanical sewing machine that's aimed at first-time stitchers, or sewists who are looking for a reliable machine to handle basic alterations, dressmaking and the odd home sewing project, from quilts to roman blinds. The needle itself is easy to change by unscrewing the needle clamp screw and removing the current needle, then inserting the new one and tightening. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. The detachable storage box converts the flat bed into a useful free arm and allows easy access to tricky areas like sleeves and trouser legs, extra height foot lifter doubles the height of the foot and allows for extra bulky fabrics and the independent stitch length adjustment increases the versatility.

We'd like to see a built-in thread cutter and you can't lower the feed dogs, so it's not the one if you're looking to try free motion embroidery or quilting. It comes with 4 different sewing feet and a magnetic presser foot holder, so you can simply change the foot by raising the presser foot and needle, then gently pressing the current foot down to remove, and snapping the new one back in place by lowering the presser foot holder on to it. Stitch length and width is adjustable, and it has a good range of stitches, including stretch and an overlock stitch as well as having the ability to use twin needles. We had to play around about with the thread tension to match the fabric a bit, so would have found it useful to see a stitch tension guide for different fabrics for beginners in the manual, but this isn't an exclusive issue for this machine – it's all part of the sewing process and we soon worked out which thread tensions worked best for which fabric. I am extremely pleased with it, my single small grip is that the foot pedal is very light and not very grippy so it walks away from me on the hard flooring but it is very minor!I am really pleased with it and have no criticisms to make apart from the foot pedal is so light it wanders about a bit, but that is a very minor thing.
