All of the characters in Promise Me felt so real, you can actually envisage them as people in the world around you. Persoonlijk vond ik het soms wat te langdradig of duurde het te lang voordat er wat sensatie in het verhaal kwam. Samen was het een compleet en goed uitgewerkt geheel en was het oprecht weer een heerlijke Jill Mansell! Through all the ups and downs, the supportive close-knit community, where nothing stays secret for long, is just what she needs to get back on her feet and help to distract her from risking what is sure to be another disastrous romance.

Lou was such a lovely character and her relationship with cantankerous Edgar was heartwarming and took me back to my days as a care worker. Ik had feelgood lang gemeden, omdat ik geen groot fan ben van verhalen die hoofdzakelijk om de will they-won't they vraag draaien.

De leuk neergezette personages brengen leven in de brouwerij, creëren opschudding en drama maar zijn er ook voor elkaar, ze zorgen voor verrassingen en schuwen grote gebaren niet. Handsome and charming, with women falling at his feet, Lou is determined that she will not become another notch on his bedpost.I love a story which features a cantankerous character and eighty-year-old Edgar was the perfect complement to Lou’s sweet demeanour. From Lou’s lovely personality to the grumpiness of Edgar, the charm of Remy through to the absolutely adorable four legged Captain Oates.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Random Things Tours.Each character had a side story cleverly interwoven within the main story and I felt so many emotions throughout this book!

When I read the details about Promise Me, I felt and still do an instant connection to the protagonist, the lovely Lou, whose life experiences although fictional, were uncannily similar like my own, in some respects. And with that, she discovers so much more about herself, helps the people around her, genuinely just cares to do what's right. And along the way, you re-discover the meaning of friendship, re-kindle first crushes, and genuinely learn that despite the first impressions someone makes on you, everyone is capable of change and no matter how unsavory their behavior may be, deserves a little bit of kindness and happiness.As always though, a story may have the JM stamp upon it, but it still stands tall as a unique, warm, touching, witty and captivating story.
