About this deal

Spitz’s account of their artistic journey, amid the fascinating ecosystem of popular music, is irresistible. Spitz spends a significant proportion of the book discussing Led Zeppelin’s off-stage antics, examining their increasing drug consumption, the violence that surrounded them, and allegations of relations with underage groupies. The only thing I read was the 'After Zeppelin' part, because I was eager to get on with the music and stop living in a dream state. But Angel s book does more than showcase the rise of one of the greatest rock bands in history, it also documents the evolving guitar choices of the band s founder, Jimmy Page.

No one before or since has lived the dream quite like Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham. Often described as “heavy,” any true fan will tell you that the band’s 9 studio albums and 81 tracks thereon are actually a complex amalgam of blues, psychedelia, rock, folk, and country that reveal the influences of Led Zeppelin’s four members.Led Zeppelin: The Biography” was written without the cooperation of any surviving members of the band. Before completing my first pass, I wish I had known about all the band's comments that were placed at the back of the book. This is a glorious photo book which chronicles the life of the greatest rock n roll band in all its glory. I was so captivated that I used a roll-and-a-half of film on them and that was expensive for a school boy! The book’s prologue describes the band’s legendary January 26, 1969 Boston Tea Party show, explaining its significance and the impact it had on a young Steven Tyler in the audience.

They were 'the last great band of the sixties; the first great band of the seventies'; they rose, somewhat unpromisingly, from the ashes of the Yardbirds to become one of the biggest-selling rock bands of all time.Bob Spitz is the award-winning author of the biographies Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child and The Beatles, both New York Times bestsellers, as well as seven other nonfiction books and a screenplay. Fairport Convention’s Dave Pegg’s recollection of a drink and drugs session with Bonham, featuring cameos from Janis Joplin and Andy Warhol, is a particularly entertaining highlight. Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones declined to speak with Spitz, meaning he relies on previous interviews, existing books, and associates with differing levels of reliability and axes to grind to tell the story of Led Zeppelin.
