About this deal

There are quite a few features that are worth noting here, such as support for triple-4K monitor support. You can lock the frame rate to 30 FPS in the graphics settings for a stable frame rate, and maybe increase one or two graphics a level up. The 5700 itself is a well-proven CPU; this thing is an emulation beast for pretty much any core you want to throw at it.

To protect the circuitry while using a 12V external power supply, making PCIe x16 accessible from outside the enclosure, and guaranteeing an effortless switch to a connected GPU + its power supply are among the concerns. The bracket was bundled with the system we received, and from what we can tell it should ship with all EM B550 systems. The Ryzen 7 5700G performance is well covered by other reviews, so here we are solely focusing on whether should anyone bother with external GPUs, or would it make more sense to just build a Mini-PC on their own. As for the rest of the specifications, the AMD B550 motherboard featured on the B550 Pro Mini PC can host up to a Ryzen 7 5800X / 5800X3D CPU.If you already have a formatted stick for a Windows install, you could just delete all the files and folders, then dump this ZIP on it and it should work. There is support for up to three monitors via the two HDMI and DisplayPort capable of 4K at 60Hz each.

Overall, the Minisforum EliteMini B550 is a great choice if you are short on space and would like to keep your upgrade options for graphics performance open. The graphics performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with its AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 is just marginally viable for gaming.

I wish they designed 12vDC-conversion into their chunky riser and had the option for the user to power it with a 19-20v brick. It is placed on the same side as I/O which is neither comfortable nor obvious place to look for a button. The B550 processor is more than capable for gaming and you will in most cases still find yourself limited by the graphics card as to how high the graphics will go. Users who want the barebone kit will be open to select from any SFX units that meet the dimensions of the chassis.

Using the GPU dock on a Minisforum EliteMini B550 requires a separate power supply that delivers power to both the EliteMini B550 as well as the GPU.However, Windell just posted a review of this thing - right when I was considering an inexpensive B550 build for the kiddo that needs something more than his Raspberry Pi 3B and Minecraft. My only complaints are that the lack of front panel USB, so I had to get a USB extension cable to bring the receiver for my keyboard out from behind it to get consistent key/trackpad registration (chassis is mostly aluminum, plastic top and bottom), and the LED power indicator strip on the lid is not controllable in anyway (which I will solve by simply unplugging it). The Vega 8 iGPU is not designed for gaming at 1080p, but given the fact we wanted to compare the results with discrete graphics, which will undoubtedly perform better, we chose higher resolution. The mini PC supports a graphics card length of up to 300 mm and a power supply unit up to SFX (125 x 100 x 63. There is an included frame design that is optionally attached to the Minisforum Elitemini B550, which in turn connects an external graphics card (eGPU) such as a GeForce 4090 for even faster performance!
