He’s getting over the death of his long time girlfriend Rachel during the book so that gave him a personable side along with the tough detective side as the investigation goes on. Every curse—physical, luck, memory, emotion, dream, death, and even transformation—causes some kind of blowback.Plus, he probably trains for this all day, while I’m at Wallingford studying to get into the kind of college there is no way I am ever going to attend.

Now, I am a super-obsessed fan of the 'In Death' series by JD Robb, which kind of sets the benchmark for serial killer plots for me, so consider me biased. First identifying where Dad kept his wallet by looking for a bulge in a back pocket or the way one side of his coat swung heavily because something was inside. The problem being neither Strike, Robin, or the reader know who the characters are in the game compared to their Twitter names, or their actual name.He’s horrified by the thought that there could be no good or evil, no black or white, and no right choice, just choice. Jake Kerridge from The Daily Telegraph rated the book 3 out of 5 stars, describing the series as a whole as "good comforting crime fiction", but criticising The Ink Black Heart for its length, stating it "[does not] seem to have more depth, or to cover more emotional territory, than the earlier ones did".

This children’s tale featured three bears and Dan is convinced that this killer is only just beginning.

How considerate, saving Dan the trouble of having to convince everyone that the investigation wasn't / conviction wouldn't be compromised due to the nature of their relationship. The story is narrated by Dan and the killer, in alternating sections - so we see deep into the psyche of these two individuals.
