Given the plethora of boarding school books out there, I know it's not easy to create a unique world and the tropes can be overdone, but this series totally nails it. There, Gabriel meets Penelope Crook, daughter of the headmaster and a bit of a know-it-all, Ade and Ede, twin white-hat hackers who bounce off each other like all siblings do, and Amira, a shy Italian-Muslim girl with a knack for agility. We are a home for the forgotten, a sanctuary for the lost and … yes, a training ground for the greatest crooks of the future.Whilst this didn’t feel all that groundbreaking or unique and featured some somewhat questionably written POC representation, overall this was a fast paced, action packed adventure and a fun book to spend a few hours with.

This is an exceptional book, filled with bold characters talented in the arts of deception, forgery and parkour- though they only use these talents to right the world.Penelope for her determination and the Okoro twins for their skills and bickering and Amira for her quiet yet determined abilities. The first book in the ‘criminally good’ Crookhaven series, the secret school where students are taught to do wrong, so that one day, they can put the world to rights. There were a few times I thought the book a little dull, and thus only 3 stars, but I like it enough to look out for when the 2nd book in the series comes out.
