About this deal

g. tuned to E, the hard strings will be higher tension than lighter strings, but that the harder strings can be tuned up to A with less increase in tension than the lighter strings, due to a myriad of variables in gauge, hardness, material, etc. Of course, there is the option cut them off, but it’s an added task to do if you don’t actually need to! Aquila 96C Guitalele Strings - The classic A tuning set for Guilele/Guitalele with scale lengths of 17″ (42-43 cm). OK, so I'm a relatively new owner of a Yamaha GL-1 Guitalele, and while the factory strings didn't wow me, I played them long enough to get acquainted with the instrument. However, it is essential to note that steel strings and classical strings are heavier than nylon strings and can be harder to play.

If you are approaching it with an open mind, you will find like me that a Guitalele comes to life when you approach it much more delicately and it has turned me into an introvered player in a refreshingly good way. Unfortunately an increase in string diameter also has the disadvantage of increasing internal dampening resulting in a less responsive, duller sound. They simply don't sound good unless you are delicately picking a Romantic or Classical piece on them. The set also sounds very well balanced and has a nice brightness even for someone playing without nails like my lad. These strings work best in standard guitar tuning and that is my preference when playing popular Guitaleles like the Kanile'a GL6, Islander GL6, Flight GUT850 or Flight Carabao Guitaleles. In fact, the only ones I know of are Aquila’s and they have loop ends that are not designed to work with bridge pins. These D'addario strings appealed to me when I opened the packet because they felt like a more substantial version of the 'GHS' strings my ukulele arrived with. I can't imagine what normal tension strings would be like, if the light tension strings are this hard. And if you do find a single G or A string, it’s usually not much less expensive (or not less expensive at all) than a full set of ukulele strings.

The strings I am keeping on my Kanile'a are the Bronze wound strings from a set of D'Addario Folk Nylon's and the unwound red strings from the Aquila Rubino 134C's. However, I found these strings to be quite shrill to the ear and the silver plated copper bass strings took days to settle. Pour un taux de transport, la logistique ou placer une commande, n’hésitez pas à demander à Métronomie une autre soumission pour le transport. Aquila strings are a great option for this (in fact they could be classed as a ukulele string, but will work with a guitalele nonetheless). The wounded wire of the low C is a little loose at the end of the string, this allows the string to fit in any hole at the saddle.Eventually, just after Christmas I built up enough equity in washing up and the like that I bit the bullet and took one home. A guitalele (or guilele) is a hybrid instrument that is similar to a guitar but with a shorter neck and a smaller body size. So, preferring lighter strings in general on my guitars, both steel and nylon, I decided to pick up a set of Pro Arte light tension strings (EJ43) which I have used on occasion before on my classical, though now use normal tension. The Guitalele is an instrument surrounded in mystique so let me debunk some of the confusion out there. Hard tension strings will put more stress on your instrument and guitaleles just aren’t designed to withstand that sort of tension.

I also purchased a set of Savarez " Prodige 38" specially designed for fractionnal guitars, and I'm just about to try them on my Gretsch guitalele, the one with a real short scale (43 cms). Aquila makes some loop end strings designed for E tuning on the guitalele if you want to check those out.And the short answer is that I only recommend putting extra light steel strings on a guitalele regardless of tuning (and that’s only if your instrument has a truss rod). The good news is that strings for this type of guitalale are extremely easy to get hold of – you just need to grab a pair of electric guitar steel strings! It seems as thought the guitalele was really made to sound at this pitch : a rich and full sound, perfectly balanced, without the "ping"-like accent in the treeble that you get with a guitalele tuned in A or even in G.
